| | Joan Jett Hit List CD Joan Jett Discography of CDs
Joan Jett's hit 1988 solo release, UP YOUR ALLEY, saw the ex-Runaway rocker issue an album less reliant on cover versions of other rockers' songs than many of her previous releases. But on 1990's THE HIT LIST, she released an album comprised entirely of covers.
Jett sticks close to the original versions for the most part, especially on the album's biggest hit, a reading of AC/DC's 1976 sleaze anthem "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap." Also featured are expected versions of classics penned by some of Jett's biggest punk heroes--namely the Sex Pistols ("Pretty Vacant") and Jonathan Richman ("Roadrunner USA"), the latter a song Jett had already covered on her '86 release, GOOD MUSIC. While THE HIT LIST failed to successfully continue Jett's newly rekindled commercial success on its release, it remains a fun listen nonetheless.Q - 4 Stars - Excellent Goldmine - Recommended - "..dynamic spirit..." Traditionalist Alan Jackson has paid tribute to his musical roots in the past with reworked versions of songs like "Who's Cheating Who" and "Summertime Blues." With UNDER THE INFLUENCE, an entire album's worth of classic country songs, Jackson truly proves the old adage, "They just don't write 'em like that anymore." | | John Fogerty Centerfield CD (1985) Remastered
Hit List music CDs
$6.49 "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play." These are lines familiar to any baseball fan, for John Fogerty's "Centerfield" has become the unofficial song of our national pastime. Those lines also signaled Fogerty's return to the music business after a ten-year absence. The music is mighty familiar, as Fogerty works the same terrain he mined for gold with Creedence Clearwater Revival from 1968-1972. The riff of the opening track, "The Old Man Down the Road," sounds so much like the Creedence hit "Run Through the Jungle" that Fogerty was sued by his former record company for plagiarizing himself. (He won the suit, the court upholding a composer's right to sound like himself.) "Old Man" was a Top Ten single, and this album reached number one itself. "Big Train (From Memphis)" is a rockabilly salute to Elvis, while "I Saw It on TV" takes us on a trip through the '50s and '60s "from Hooter to Doodyville," via the boob tube. "Searchlight" recalls "Keep On Chooglin" and the other extended one-chord jams of the Creedence days. Fogerty also lashes out at his old nemesis Saul Zaentz, head of that former label, Fantasy Records, with whom he had battled (and lost) over rights to his own catalog of Creedence songs. On "Mr. Greed" and "Zanz Kant Danz" (renamed "Vanz Kant Danz" on later pressings due again to the threat of lawsuit), he vents ...

Hit List songs
$7.75 John Cougar and the American listening public became inseparable after this landmark album arrived in 1982. While AMERICAN FOOL wasn't John Cougar's first full-length recording, it was the one wherein he gained commercial and artistic footing, and established a formula that would become his trademark style--simple roots-rock melodies with stirring choruses, unguardedly emotional vocals, and lyrics that reflect the experiences of the common man.
