| | Isley Brothers 3+3 CD Isley Brothers Discography of CDs
This is a multi-channel Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
Recorded in 1973. Originally released on T-Neck (32453). Includes liner notes by David Ritz.
Though the Isley Brothers recorded some excellent material in their original line-up as a trio, their sound and vision expanded when the group itself expanded to a sextet in the early '70s. 3+3 marks the inception of the Isleys' new incarnation, one that features, in addition to Ronald, O'Kelly, and Rudolph, younger brothers Ernie (guitar) and Marvin (bass), and cousin Chris Japser (keyboards). On 3+3 the band's slick, besuited Tamla/Motown soul was replaced by grittier, funkier stuff with some truly spectacular instrumental prowess.
The Isleys had always been given to performing reverent, stretched-out covers of songs they loved, and 3+3 has its share, with treatments of Seals & Crofts's "Summer Breeze," James Taylor's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight," and the Doobie Brothers' "Listen to the Music." The Isleys' "That Lady Pts 1 & 2" and "The Highways of My Life," among other originals, showcase the pyrotechnics of funk monster Marvin and the Hendrix-inspired excursions of Ernie. The Isleys' mixture of rock, funk, soul, and R&B was at its peak here, and 3+3 stands as one of the best albums in the group's lengthy discography.
This is part Legacy's "Rhythm & Soul" series.

| | Isley Brothers Heat Is On CD (1975)
3+3
$5.95 Also available in a 3-pack with GO FOR YOUR GUNS and BETWEEN THE SHEETS.
1975's The Heat Is On was the third album that the Isley Brothers recorded with their 3 + 3 lineup, and by that time, the lineup had really perfected its attractive soul/rock sound. The Isleys were providing great R&B long before keyboardist Chris Jasper, bassist Marvin Isley, and the distinctive guitarist Ernie Isley came on board in 1973; nonetheless, the newcomers added a lot to the group and helped it provide some of its best recordings. Marvin's basslines are as funky as it gets, and the Jimi Hendrix-influenced Ernie is a killer guitarist; he would have been perfect for Deep Purple, Blue ...
| | Isley Brothers Go For Your Guns CD (1977)
3+3
$5.95 Also available in a 3-pack with THE HEAT IS ON and BETWEEN THE SHEETS.
On 1977's GO FOR YOUR GUNS the Isley Brothers can be heard modifying their sound yet again to suit the times. The group's usual wild-card eclecticism is streamlined here, through their previous incarnations as smooth soulsters, purveyors of guitar-based psychedelia, and ...

| Isley Brothers Harvest For The World CD (1976)
3+3
$5.95 The Isley Brothers came with love, funk and the too seldom mentioned socially consicous songs; this album is titled after one of those social gems. However, "Who Loves You Better," with its disco flair, was the album's first release. Ronald Isley's aggressive delivery blends nicely with Ernie Isley's tantalizing guitar solos. It was a top three single ...
| | Isley Brothers Showdown CD (1978)
3+3
$9.99 The Isley Brothers' 1978 album, SHOWDOWN, may have arrived towards the end of their initial (extremely long) run of hits, but it still finds them at the top of their game. "Take Me to the Next Phase" is one of the funkiest things they've ever done, with slap-happy bass and growling bass synth adding up to a ferocious bottom, while on the other side of the spectrum, "Groove With You" sports a smooth, tender sound that could rival any contemporaneous track by Smokey Robinson. SHOWDOWN also wound up being sample fodder for many hip-hop artists years later.
This Top 10 Platinum smash, originally released in 1978 on The Isley Brothers' own T-Neck label, has remained criminally out of print on CD in the U.S. … until now! Boasting the #1 hit "Take Me To The Next Phase (Part 1 & 2)" and "Groove With You," and classic, frequently sampled jams like "Coolin' Me Out," Showdown was the perfect follow-up to The Isley Brothers' ...
| | Utris Long Walk Home CD (1999)
3+3
$5.99 Over three years in the making, Utris' second album The Long Walk Home mixes muscular guitar riffs with commanding vocals and layered, polished production values. Songs like "Some Gurls" and "Spain" sound like a bit like a cross between Soundgarden's later singles and Chris Cornell's solo work, while shimmering, reflective pieces like "1000 Words" and "White Rust" meld droning, vaguely Eastern-inspired arrangements with earnest melodies. "Remain the Same," the album's closing track, combines Utris' dynamic and meditative sides into a 12-minute epic. Over the course of The Long Walk Home, the band's melodic sense becomes somewhat monotonous, but the album is still a solid debut as well as a unique spin on anthemic, post-grunge rock. ~ Heather Phares
“I can remember, clear as day. It was a February, or March, or maybe April. There was something, it felt like it was in the air. In the springtime, you get all these things running around your body and up in your head. Well that was probably what started it. All those hormones. We didn’t know any better, we just knew what we liked, and we liked to feel good, so that’s what it was. It was bright, it was fast, you could dance to it. Isn’t that how it always is in the beginning? Sometimes we needed to get some stuff out. We just had to rock. And so we did that. You’re a kid. You do kid stuff. It’s not that it’s better or worse, it’s just different than it is now. But we went there, we went everywhere. Sometimes we didn’t stay so long. We met new people, new ideas, new ways of doing things. Relationships started, or they didn’t. Sometimes they were stuck in the middle. We reached some lows before we were able to see what we really had. We had a lot. We had stories, we had experiences, we had things that we never told anybody else. Things were discovered, unearthed. We dug them up and put them on pedestals. So now we are growing up even more and understanding what we have to do. Are we too young? Yeah, but we got to start somewhere.”Reviews:utris' yearning for 'Home' fuels visionHeather ...
