This is the first CD release of FOGGY MOUNTAIN JAMBOREE, which was the first full-length bluegrass album ever released.
This 1957 long-player (bluegrass, or "mountain music" as it was often called then, had mostly been the province of 78s) collects 12 top-notch cuts by the group many consider to be bluegrass's all-time finest. Earl Scruggs and Lester Flatt met in Bill Monroe's band in the mid-'40s, where they helped Monroe pioneer the classic bluegrass sound, then later left Monroe to form their own group, with Scruggs's blazing banjo leads and Flatt's flat-picking guitar lines and steady tenor taking the spotlight. Fiddlers Chubby Wise and Paul Martin, dobro player Buck Graves, and mandolin player Curly Seckler also lent their skills to the air-tight artistry of the outfit.
FOGGY MOUNTAIN JAMBOREE is an excellent sampler of old-time country at its absolute best. In addition to the Scruggs's jaw-dropping banjo proficiency (displayed prominently on instrumentals like "Flint Hill Special" and "Shuckin' the Corn"), and the sweet, tight harmonies throughout (especially notable on the a cappella "Reunion in Heaven"), all of the compositions--many of which were penned by Flatt and Scruggs--are strong. Superior playing, glorious multi-part singing, and an overall down-home, good-time, rootsy feel make FOGGY MOUNTAIN JAMBOREE an incontestable classic.
Includes liner notes by John Hartford.

Foggy Mountain Jamboree music CDs
$12.05 Is Si Kahn a professional songwriter? He is not sure, wrestles with the idea, and even seems to resist it. This despite a 28-year recording career spanning eleven albums on four labels, including an acclaimed 1995 retrospective, "In My Heart," celebrating his music. One thing he does know is that he is a professional labor and community organizer, a life-long occupation and mission fueled by his concern and respect for mill workers, coal miners and other down-trodden communities in the American South. With his song writing inspired by the very communities with whom he works, he has become one of the preeminent figures in contemporary topical song, ranked with writers like Malvina Reynolds, Joe Hill, Aunt Molly Jackson, Utah Phillips and Woody Guthrie in the pantheon of this politically charged musical genre. Si Kahn compositions have been covered by well over 100 performers and include such folk and bluegrass standards as"Aragon Mill," "Gone, Gonna Rise Again," and "Wild Rose of the Mountain". This soul stirring new collection was his first in three years and is comprised of 14 all-new songs...each one a tribute to an inspirational comrade ...
| | Randy Travis Storms Of Life CD (1986)
Foggy Mountain Jamboree songs
$6.05 Travis's first major label album (after an independently released live set) almost single-handedly yanked commercial country out of its '80s URBAN COWBOY crossover phase and back to the music's rural roots. Even better, it introduced a singer who mixed George Jones' clench-jawed intensity with hints of his idols Lefty Frizzell and Merle Haggard. Beautifully produced by Klye Lehning, it's an all but perfect mixture of cheating songs ("Reasons I Cheat") and weepers (like "1982" and ...

Foggy Mountain Jamboree album
$7.99 A great selection of gospel songs sung by a man who knows a thing or two about sin and repentance, HOMECOMING IN HEAVEN is George Jones in 1962--it really doesn't get any better. The band cooks, George's voice soars, and the reverb is always big and lush. Highlights include the classics "Peace In The Valley" and "Wings Of A Dove" as well as "Wandering Soul," a powerful Jones original, and ...
