Beck took a few years off from releasing solo albums after the musically controversial FLASH but returned to what he did best with 1989's GUITAR SHOP. Instead of continuing the pop experiments of its predecessor, GUITAR SHOP features such tough, rocking, and unpredictable guitar-driven tracks as the album-opening "Guitar Shop," "Big Block," and "Sling Shot." But Beck can also play it tender, as evidenced by the haunting melancholia of "Where Were You."

Principally recorded at The Sol Studio, London, England.

Personnel: Jeff Beck (guitar); Terry Bozzio (vocals, drums, percussion); Tony Hymas (keyboards, synthesizer).

Producers: Jeff Beck, Terry Bozzio, Tony Hymas, Leif Mases.

4 stars Excellant
His way in pronouncing different levels of melody really gave me some ideas of my own to ponder and score in a practice recording. I will use these ideas, his different chord progressions and licks to further my music development.

4 stars One of Jeff's Best
Beck's later solo work can be a crap shoot, but this one is strong. Terry Bozzio, one of the greatest unknown drummers in the world gives a stellar performance. The songs are strong, the playing is great. The price is excellent!!!!! Thanks CDU

Very Best Of The Eagles CDs  (1994) Remastered; Digipak

Guitar Shop album
CD $20.25  4.6 stars Top 100 Audio Samples
THE VERY BEST OF includes a 46-page booklet with pictures and track information. "Hole In The World" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. This 1994 greatest hits package (released in anticipation of the band's wildly successful reunion tour and album) supplants THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971-1975. It adds seven songs, but unfortunately deletes "Already Gone," one of their best rockers. What's most interesting about THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES - apart from the presence of obviously classic songs like "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California" - is that it demonstrates that the band's esthetic was fully formed from day one. Despite the fact that the songs here span nearly a decade, listening to them back to back you could almost believe they were the product of one marathon recording session. The Eagles' founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey were forthright in their desire to bring then-emerging country rock to new heights of commercial success. Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, they learned from their observations of the scene around them, and subsequently took their music to the top of the charts. They stayed there throughout the '70s, becoming synonymous with the sound of Southern California rock. The band's first hit was with a song by Jackson Browne, and their first album also included a cover of "Ol' 55" by Tom Waits, but the bulk of the material ...

It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. It was even more surprising when the new members turned out to be Trevor Horn (later a famed pop producer) and Geoff Downes (who would soon depart with Steve Howe for Asia). And it was downright shocking when the resultant album DRAMA turned out to be a great one. While Horn's voice is in the same general range as Anderson's, he tends to blend more with the vocals of Howe and Squire for a distinctive three-part harmony sound. Similarly, the individual instrumental statements of Howe and Downes avoid grandstanding in favor of the group dynamic. Consequently, DRAMA is one of Yes' most direct, concise offerings, full of relatively short songs that still maintain all the Yes hallmarks. Anderson diehards should leave their inhibitions at the door. For this one album, ex-Buggles Geoffrey Downes and Trevor Horn were drafted in to replace Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. It rocks harder than other Yes albums, and for classically inclined fans, it was a jarring departure; but it was a harbinger of Yes and Asia albums to come. A newly emboldened Chris Squire lays down aggressive rhythms with Alan White, ...

Jeff Beck's first all-instrumental album in a decade finds him tossing a few contemporary peppers into his pot of musical virtuosity. Reuniting once again with GUITAR SHOP keyboardist Tony Hymas, Beck maintains a balance between contemporary, Art Of Noise-flavored tracks ("Space For The Papa," "TX138") complete with delays, techno beats and looped guitars, and a reunion with '70s fusion running buddy Jan Hammer on the heavier, Van Halen-esque "Even Odds." Beck's musical range continues to impress as he easily moves between emotive blues phrasing ("Brush With The Blues"), fleet-fingered noodling ("Blast From The East") and more ethereal numbers that bring to mind Carlos Santana's solo work ("Hip-Notica.") Beck's talent truly ...

Beck's devoted following regards 1985's FLASH as one of his more controversial releases. Instead of issuing another expected guitar-heavy work, Beck sought out innovative dance producer Nile Rodgers to oversee the majority of the albums' tracks and lend an electronic, ultra-'80s sound throughout (best heard on the album-opening ...
Almost Home
G H Cline Almost Home CD  (2006)

Guitar Shop music CDs
CD $22.79
In the beginning, when I met gh cline he was wearing a stetson and high on a pair of wood heel boots. The brim of his hat held back his long blond hair and a denim shirt echoed his stunning blue eyes. He gave me a smile that reflected the soul of a good man. He has that classic western charm. He calls malibu his home, rides horses thru the hills of zuma and lives with a beautiful lady. Not a bad lifestyle, but not an easy road to get there. He's a gentleman who’s paid some dues. Imagine a young man of 19, discovering himself in the liberal sixties, with dreams of rock-n-roll and stardom being shattered by the hammer of the vietnam war. Gh was drafted and soon found himself on the ground in the front lines of enemy gun fire; his youthful innocence and acoustic guitar shattered in a rocket attack. For psychological survival, cline reads and rereads the book Siddhartha; infusing eastern philosophy into the western religion he was raised with. In the turmoil soil of Nam, cline discovers and experiments with marijuana and opium and begins writing poetry. These writings are later published in his first book of poems, 'consider the source', and receive National attention. When he returns home, rock-n-roll is the voice of his generation but cline is too emotional to ride the wave and begins the sabbatical period of his life. Some wounds set deep and take long to heal. In his humble voice he reminds me that he’s not the only one who has suffered ...

Front 242 Front By Front CD  (1988)

Guitar Shop CD music
CD $5.95
The early work of Belgian techno outfit Front 242 was frequently overshadowed by the band's reliance on such influences as Cabaret Voltaire and Kraftwerk. With FRONT BY FRONT, the band's Front 242 album, the band finally came into its own. Using rapid-fire beats, blasts of synthesized vitriol, and samples of everything from children playing to fighter pilot back-chatter, Front 242 makes brutal, politically aggressive dance music. The album's standouts are ...

Joe Perry Let The Music Do The Talking CD  (1980)

Guitar Shop songs
CD $6.25  Top 500
Joe Perry split from Aerosmith under less than favorable circumstances in 1979, directly assembling a solo band, the Joe Perry Project (with Ralph Mormon [vocals], David Hull [bass], and Ronnie Stewart [drums]), which soon released its first album, 1980's Let the Music Do the Talking. Unlike his former band, which would now take excessive amounts of time to record albums that should have been cranked out quickly, L.T.M.D.T.T. recalled the brash and trashy appeal of early Aerosmith. Maybe because he wanted to show his former bandmates that he could succeed without them, ...
