(1 Customer Review)
SONGS IN THE ATTIC is a collection of some of Billy Joel's personal favorites, all recorded live. This edition is an Enhanced CD containing both a full audio program as well as video clips for the songs "Los Angelenos," "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" and "You're My Home."
Digitally remastered by Ted Jensen (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
In the summer of 1980, while "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me" was rocketing up the pop charts on its way to becoming his first number one single, Billy Joel was barnstorming small clubs on the East Coast with a set of songs he wrote before he became a superstar. This unusual tour served as the basis of SONGS IN THE ATTIC, a live album consisting entirely of non-hits. The songs range from sweet, previously overlooked ballads like "She's Got a Way" (from the then-out-of-print COLD SPRING HARBOR) and "You're My Home" to early concert staples like "Miami 2017" and "Captain Jack," and make for a pretty good picture of what Joel sounded like before he became a household name. About half the album was recorded in arenas--because, as Joel writes in the liner notes, a song like "Miami 2017" "demands the gothic reverberation of New York's Madison Square Garden"--but it's heart lies in the intimate club performances. "She's Got a Way" even became a modest pop hit.
Recorded live during Billy Joel's 1980 GLASS HOUSES tour.
Personnel: Billy Joel (vocals, harmonica, piano, keyboards); David Brown, Russell Javors (guitar); Richie Cannata (flute, winds, saxophone, organ, keyboards); Liberty DeVito (drums, percussion).
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Songs In The Attic Music Review Buy Songs In The Attic CD Purchase Songs In The Attic CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Billy Joel Piano Man CD (1973) Remastered; Enhanced CD

| | A K A S Everybody Make Some Noise! CD (2008) Are Everywhere
Songs In The Attic album
$13.05 Not only are the A.K.A.s everywhere, they're everywhen, too, gleefully scooping up punk past and prehistoric and rolling it into their exhilarating sound. Garage punk from the '60s? Got it, thanks to keyboardist Josie Outlaw, whose psyched-out playing sloshes the '60s over much of this album, kicking off with "This Is the Way We Move," the band's explosive mission statement, whose chorus, "Everybody make some noise," entitles this set. But Outlaw isn't only gunning for the '60s; she's got the '70s in her sights as well -- check out her new wavey stylings on "In Case I Die." In the time-travel sweepstakes, however, guitarist Vegas Davis has Outlaw cornered, as he slams, slashes, ...
| | Tangent Not As Good As The Book CDs (2008)
Songs In The Attic CD music
$17.49 This prog super-group, comprising members of the Flower Kings, Van Der Graaf Generator, and Parallel or 90 Degrees, epitomize the best aspects of the so-called Canterbury school of British spectacle. On their fourth studio album, longish, ambulatory song structures and an energetic mood provide an uplifting and engaging listen that will make older prog fans nostalgic for the 1970s, while demonstrating to younger listeners just how it's done.
Progressive rock, for the most part, has not been known for having a strong sense of humor. It was shaped, after all, by musicians who believed that if third stream jazz musicians could exalt Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, and Chopin as their idols, there was no reason why rock musicians shouldn't do the same. But Not as Good as the Book is a prog rock release that definitely has a sense of humor; in fact, humor is a vital part of this CD set. A highly conceptual effort, Not as Good as the Book is written from the perspective of aging baby boomers who lived to see the 21st century and are not happy with the ways in which the world has changed. Historically, most rock music -- from punk to rockabilly to grunge -- has been very youth-focused. But on this release, the Tangent offer the perspective ...
| | Lili Haydn Place Between Places CD (2008) (Import) Netherlands
Songs In The Attic music CDs
$16.89 Lili Haydn has a dual identity. On the one hand she is the poster child for overly emotive singer/songwriters. That breathy voice, those "I'm so vulnerable" vocals, the oh so self-absorbed lyrics. Even "Satellites," which obliquely references war and Katrina, still revolves all around her and her love affair. On the weepy "Children of Babylon," Haydn wrings her hands, if only ...
