Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren album for sale Product Description
Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren album for sale by Grin was released Apr 01, 2008 on the Legacy label. The failure of Grin to sell large numbers of records in the early '70s is one of those mysteries of popular music. They seemed to have everything, all in the person of leader Nils Lofgren, an accomplished guitarist and songwriter with a connection to the CSNY axis who had played on Neil Young's After the Gold Rush when he was only 18-years-old. Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren CD music contains a single disc with 19 songs. ...See Full Description

Gov't Mule Deepest End CD (2000) Top Seller
Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren songs Return To Summer Lake is Steven's third recording. Special guest artists on the CD include Molly O'Brien, Nina Gerber, Debi Smith, SONiA of Disappear Fear, Pete & Maura Kennedy, Al Petteway & Bruce Molsky. Steven Bio:Billboard Magazine describes Steven Gellman's music as "intensely sensitive and impressively intelligent at the same time". As another reviewer aptly phrased it, Gellman's songs are "Kodak moments" from his life.He often performs in nursing homes and retirement communities, and even used a choir of senior citizens as backup on the track "Almeda at 90" from his album "Photobook". Dick Cerri, President of the World Folk Music Association says "Steve's natural ability on stage enables an audience to not only enjoy the songs and stories, but to participate in the performance."Nowhere is there a better example of how Gellman touches people's lives than the story of fan Jennifer Baker, blind and wheelchair bound from a lifelong struggle with kidney failure. She first heard Steven at a Borders Book store concert and instantly became one of his most ardent fans. His music was an inspiration to her in her last months and Gellman performed at a memorial service in her honor to benefit the National Kidney Association. The song "A Little Bit Fine" on Steven's CD "Return to Summer Lake" was written for Jennifer and is one of his most requested songs. His new release, "Love Loss Longing", is Steven's first concept album. The eleven-song collection describes the journey one goes through at the end of a relationship. As Steven puts it, "To me, each song represents a chapter in a book, there is a beginning, middle and end. Every emotion is explored here -- sadness, anger, hope and joy."Gellman performs throughout the United States and Canada at the premiere acoustic music venues such as The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA, The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan, The Blue Bird Café in Nashville, TN, The Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA, and Club Passim in Boston, MA. In Washington, DC, he has performed at the venerated National Theatre and the most sought after venue of all, The White House. Steven has opened shows for Dar Williams, Cheryl Wheeler, Richie Havens, Richard Shindell and Al Stewart.Steven has garnered critical acclaim across the country - he was nominated for 4 awards from The Washington Area Music Association Awards (WAMA) and by The Gay/Lesbian American Music Awards (GLAMA) for Debut Album of the Year. His release "Return to Summer Lake" was chosen by Barnes & Noble for national distribution and was featured on their listening post wall. Don Murphy of the National Theatre says "Steven Gellman's insightful original songs and homespun stories provide a soul-warming folk rock respite in a busy chilly world."

? & The Mysterians Best of ? & the Mysterians: Cameo Parkway 1966-1967 CD (2005)
Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren CD music Though most people remember ? & the Mysterians solely for their one enduring hit, "96 Tears," the frat-band staple that mixed garage rock with Tex-Mex via a monomaniacal organ riff, they actually laid down plenty of other memorable tracks in their initial lifespan. Most, including the original version of their hit, were, incredibly, unavailable on CD for decades making this 2005 reissue of the band's Cameo-Parkway sides something of a monumental occasion for garage rock collectors. The Mysterians are in their prime here ably mixing blues, soul, and teeth-baring rockers with rough-and-ready aplomb, and the inclusion of a few never-before-heard tracks (including an alternate version of "96 Tears") makes this sharply assembled anthology an absolute must for fans of the genre.

Bob Welch French Kiss CD (1977) Top Seller
Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren buy CD music Bob Welch's debut album saw him cash in on three Top 40 singles, refurbishing the romantic "Sentimental Lady" (originally from Fleetwood Mac's Bare Trees album) and taking it to number eight on the charts, with radio-tailored efforts like "Ebony Eyes" and "Hot Love, Cold World" following right behind. With not much success coming from Welch's short stint with his own Paris project, he decided to hire Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, and Christine McVie to help him out with his first solo venture. Spotlighting Welch's vocal powderiness, French Kiss ends up being a bunch of approachable soft pop tunes that display enough eager guitar work to keep them afloat. Presenting a sturdy feel for Welch on his own, tracks like "Easy to Fall," "Carolene," and "Lose My Heart" are equivalent to the hits in their familiar '70s rock formula, but cuts like "Dancin' Eyes" and "Danchiva" find Welch running out of room. Two years later, Welch released his second album, entitled Three Hearts, which gave him his last Top 40 hit with "Precious Love," but the album itself is noticeably weaker and less enthusiastic sounding than his first. ~ Mike DeGagne

Paul Revere & The Raiders Kicks! The Anthology 1963-1972 CD (2005) Top Seller
Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren album for sale Paul Revere & the Raiders didn't have an especially high perceived hipness quotient by the time their run as hitmakers came to a close in the mid-'70s, thanks to their revolutionary war costumes, their near-constant presence on television, and their goofy sense of humor. Then again, it might have been hipper to like Kansas or Emerson, Lake & Palmer by that point, but how many folks listen to them of their own volition today? Slap Kicks! The Anthology 1963-1972 into your CD player and you'll get 77 minutes of high quality proof that the Raiders and their music have truly stood the test of time -- this is prime quality American rock & roll, replete with killer hooks, tough guitars, and high attitude vocals. While garage rock enthusiasts have come around to the virtues of the Raiders in recent years, Peter Shillito's track sequence dares to venture beyond the band's glorious fuzztone period into the final post-"Indian Reservation" years of the original lineup, and he's cherry-picked enough worthy tracks to support the argument that they managed to quit before they began to flat-out suck. While fans of "Louie Louie" won't have much use for "Country Wine," "Birds of a Feather" is a pleasingly sunny slice of country-accented pop, and "Just Seventeen" and "Powder Blue Mercedes Queen" are unexpectedly muscular hard rock. And can you really argue against an album that has "Just Like Me," "Hungry," "Good Thing," "Him or Me -- What's It Gonna Be" and "Kicks" on it? Not to mention the equally brilliant if lesser known "The Great Airplane Strike," "Ballad of a Useless Man" and "Louie Go Home"? Paul Revere & the Raiders were masters of that most vital of all rock formats, the three-minute single, and Kicks! The Anthology 1963-1972 collects thirty of their best sides on one disc. If this isn't the definitive Paul Revere collection, it's close enough to satisfy nearly anyone with a taste for their many virtues. ~ Mark Deming
The first comprehensive single disc collection of the sensational Paul Revere & The Raiders. From "Louie Louie" (1963) through the hits of the mid 60s to the Indian Reservation Raiders of the early '70s, this is the ultimate 30-track hit collection. Every important song from 1963 to 1972, including 11 US Top 20 hits. Includes "Just Like Me", "Kicks", "Good Thing", "Him or Me, What's It Gonna Be?" and the #1 "Indian Reservation". All original recordings with rare photos, informative notes, and superb sound.

Strawbs Hero and Heroine CD (1974)

(Import) Bonus Tracks; England; Remastered |
Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren CD music A notable remaster of the highly innovative English psychedelic pop group's early 70s release; includes "Just Love" and "Midnight Sun." 1998, German import.
The group's ballsiest album to date, a surging, hard-rocking follow-up to Bursting at the Seams, which debuted a new lineup, Richard Hudson, John Ford, and Blue Weaver having left to form their own group. In their places, ex-Nashville Teens keyboardman John Hawken and the more muscular rhythm section of Rod Coombes and Chas Cronk make their debut, on what is the Strawbs' first fully electric album. Dave Cousins' songwriting (augmented by Dave Lambert, who also contributes some slashing electric lead guitar) is still as romantic as ever in various spots ("Shine On Silver Sun," "Deep Summer's Sleep"), but also boasts dark visions ("Round and Round") which, coupled with new band's muscular playing, made the Strawbs one of the hardest-rocking progressive bands in the world. They should have been able to blow acts like the Moody Blues off the stage, so what went wrong with this album and the tour? One suspects it was a little too serious and complex for kids who were just looking for a soundtrack to their drug experiences, and it rocked too hard for the "sensitive" English-major types who got off on Cousins' lyrics -- in a sense, the Strawbs were squeezed out of the middle in a very small-scale, subtle 1970s version of the old folk-versus-rock battles of the '60s. Hero and Heroine deserved better, being one of the best guitar-driven progressive rock albums of its period. ~ Bruce Eder
Digitally remastered reissue of the group's 1974 A&M albumwith two tracks from the album's sessions added as bonuses:the previously unreleased 'Still Smart Voice' & an earlyversion of 'Lay A Little Light'. 12 tracks total. 'Hero AndHeroine' was their first album to break the U.S. top 100 &features the line-up of Dave Cousins, Dave Lambert, JohnHawken, Chas. Cronk and Rod Coombes. 1998 A&M release.

Paul Revere & The Raiders Spirit of '67 CD (1966) Top Seller
Very Best of Grin Featuring Nils Lofgren buy CD music One of the truly great Paul Revere and the Raiders albums--SOMETHING HAPPENING, MIDNIGHT RIDE and REVOLUTION are the others--1966's SPIRIT OF '67 is sort of the group's RUBBER SOUL. More mature than their earlier albums, it's still got a solid bar-band heart. The opening track "Good Thing" is one of the Raiders' better singles, though it for some reason wasn't one of their bigger hits, as was the album's other single, the swaggering "Hungry."
Elsewhere, the album contains some solid Turtles-style soft pop alongside the stomping frat-rockers, and there's even a handful of folk-rockish social commentary songs such as "In My Community," "Our Candidate," and "The Great Airplane Strike." The different styles blend harmoniously, and the new artistic directions don't sound like commercial affections, but like a logical progression from the group's earlier records. This reissue contains three bonus tracks, including a swell alternate take of "Hungry."
1996 reissue on Sundazed of their 1996 album for Columbia with the original artwork intact & three bonus tracks- '(You're A) Bad Girl', the single side 'The Great Airplane Strike' and 'Hungry' (Alternate Version). 14 tracks total.

Producer: Terry Melcher.
Reissue producer: Bob Irwin.
Personnel: Paul Revere (organ).
