| | Ted Nugent Scream Dream CD Ted Nugent Discography of CDs
Ted Nugent entered the 1980s with the oft-overlooked, yet surprisingly strong, SCREAM DREAM. Nugent hadn't sounded this inspired on a studio recording since his 1977 classic CAT SCRATCH FEVER, as he lead his backing band through 10 stomping, high voltage compositions.
The album opening "Wango Tango" became an instant Nuge standard, including a humorous middle breakdown section in which Ted shows off with a carnival barker-esque rap. Also included are such testosterone-heavy highlights as "Terminus Eldorado" (which would turn up again on Ted's 1993 boxset, OUT OF CONTROL), the title track, and "Hard As Nails." Scream Dream album
$6.75 Digitally remastered by Joseph M. Palmaccio (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
With their 1984 release, the pleasantly titled BALLS TO THE WALL, German metallists Accept set their sights on the last frontier the band had yet to conquer--America. Like their contemporaries the Scorpions, who also specialized in hard rock and hailed from Germany, Accept started out as a straight up heavy metal band, but as the '80s wore on, softened their high volume sound with a dose of melody.
While BALLS TO THE WALL introduced Accept to whole new legion of fans stateside, it wasn't the huge US smash they'd hoped for. Still, BALLS remains one of Accept's best releases, spawning the dark yet anthemic title track, as well as the screamalong ditties "London Leatherboys" and "Love Child."
Accept's most notorious album, Balls to the Wall was also their biggest commercial success. Following hot upon the heels of their creative breakthrough, Restless and Wild, you'd also be hard pressed to find a more sexually charged record in any musical genre. Its hysterically nonsensical lyrics notwithstanding, the legendary title track remains an irresistible, fist-pumping masterpiece that came to epitomize the modern, slow-marching metal anthem as it became known. And when paired with second single "London Leatherboys," it arguably constitutes the most blatantly homoerotic couplet in the history of heavy metal (eat your ...
| | Grand Funk Railroad We're An American Band CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Scream Dream CD music
$8.85 This is a limited edition "Album Replica" CD of WE'RE AN AMERICAN BAND specially packaged to simulate the original LP design and a gold foil jacket, gatefold sleeve & 4 stickers.
Digitally remastered by Evren Goknar (1999, Capitol Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
Grand Funk's 1973 release, WE'RE AN AMERICAN BAND, continued the band's winning streak. It's gone on to become one of their most popular albums.
Slightly more pop-based than their previous work, the band plays as if it can do no wrong on this strong set. Produced by Todd Rundgren, the album spawned such gems as the rowdy and autobiographical title track, as well as such other highlights as "The Railroad," "Stop Looking Back," and "Ain't Got Nobody."
Having made several changes in their business and musical efforts in 1972, Grand Funk Railroad made even more extensive ones in 1973, beginning with their name, which was officially truncated to "Grand Funk." And keyboardist Craig Frost, credited as a sideman on Phoenix, the previous album, was now a full-fledged bandmember, filling out the musical arrangements. The most notable change, however, came with the hiring of Todd Rundgren to produce the band's eighth album. Rundgren, a pop/rock artist in his own right, was also known for his producing abilities, and he gave Grand Funk exactly what they were looking for: We're an American Band sounded nothing like its muddy, plodding ...
| | Blue Oyster Cult Mirrors CD (1979)
Scream Dream music CDs
$6.55 The Cult's 1979 response to the punk rock explosion is a bit of a puzzle. Recorded without Sandy Perlman, the band's long-time conceptual guru and producer, MIRRORS is essentially metal-lite pop--simultaneously more accessible and more generic than the Cult's usual self-consciously sinister fare; in fact, there are moments here when you could be excused for thinking you're actually listening to ...
| | Blue Oyster Cult Fire Of Unknown Origin CD (1981)
Scream Dream songs
$5.95 Drawing from a well of gothic imagery and dark overtones, this legendary hard rock quintet fused Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser's crunching guitar playing with sweeter pop overtones on the Top 40 hit "Burnin' For You." A particularly clever and often overlooked highlight of this comeback album is the horror movie-themed "Joan Crawford," of which a biting version shows up on the subsequent EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIVE.
Five years after the classic AGENTS OF FORTUNE and its hit single, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," Blue Oyster Cult scored on the charts with ...

| | Ted Nugent Free For All CD (1976)
Scream Dream CD music
$5.95 Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
After the commercial success of TED NUGENT, the wildman guitarist decided to stick to his same brand of energized hard rock. Consistency paid of as FREE FOR ALL became his first platinum record. But all was not well in the Nugent camp. During the sessions, vocalist Derek St. Holmes left the band due to "creative differences." Although St. Holmes would rejoin the band after the album's release, future superstar Meat Loaf was brought in to sing.
The lasciviously suggestive "Free for All" earned some decent FM airplay thanks to Tom Werman's slick production. Meat Loaf's theatrical vocals work well on "Writing on the Wall." St. Holmes does manage to sing on two songs: "Turn It Up," a great slab of Detroit heavy metal and on an alternate version of "Street Rats" (a bonus track included on this reissue). "Together" slows things down and ...

| | Our Lady Peace Spiritual Machines CD (2001)
Scream Dream CD music
$7.09 Adhering to the time-honored "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy, this quartet of Canadian rockers doesn't tamper much with the sound it established on previous albums, instead focusing on the strengths that brought the group so much attention in the past. Our Lady Peace has always been about the combination of churning guitars, pounding drums, and hook-oriented melodic sensibilities.
On SPIRITUAL MACHINES the band alternates between all-out rockers and mid-tempo cuts that bring the dynamics down a notch in order to showcase the band's way with a well-written tune. Interspersed along the way are some thematic threads that stitch together a vaguely futuristic sci-fi concept, but you can leave that to be fleshed out ...
| | Bob Dylan Empire Burlesque CD (1985)
Scream Dream music CDs
$7.09 And as these thoughts come pouring out of Dylan's head, the choir-like background vocals (some combination of female singers appears on over half the album's tracks) add a dimension of otherworldly testimony to his words. It seemed that, having found the righteousness of The Word, the bard of modern songwriting was now investing all his recordings with such zero-sum fervor.
One album removed from his so-called "Christian" period, EMPIRE BURLESQUE foreshadowed Bob Dylan's studio modus operandi for the rest of the 1980s. It forsakes cohesive lyrical ...
