| | Lovin Spoonful Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful CD Lovin Spoonful Discography of CDs
Originally released on Kama Sutra (8054). Includes liner notes by Dennis Diken.
Having recorded four albums (one of which was the soundtrack WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY?) in slightly over a year, the band was on a shockingly strong roll here (which began to unravel after the release of HUMS, when Zal Yanovsky left). Then all of 22-years old, John Sebastian penned all the songs for HUMS. The album opens with "Lovin' You," a perfect confluence of pop and jugband music, and it closes with their biggest hit, "Summer In the City." In between are the classics "Rain On The Roof" and "Nashville Cats," along with a host of lesser-known, but no less ingratiating numbers from the short-lived but prolific Lovin' Spoonful.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
The Lovin' Spoonful: John Sebastian, Zal Yanovsky, Steve Boone, Joe Butler.
Additional personnel: Henry Diltz (clarinet); Larry Hankin (Jew's harp).
Uncut (6/03, p.134) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...A dream-pop delight, boasting country picking, drifting psych-lite and 24-carat Sebastian pop mastery..." Dirty Linen (8/03, p.85) - "...HUMS OF THE LOVIN' SPOONFUL arguably represented the group's pinnacle..." | | Neil Young Sleeps With Angels CDs (1994)
Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful CD music
$8.69 SLEEPS WITH ANGELS was nominated for a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
Judging by the regard with which Neil Young is embraced by contemporary bands, it's clear that this rocker retained his youthful crankiness and experimental verve--willfully oblivious to popular fashions. Like John Mellencamp's DANCE NAKED, Young's SLEEPS WITH ANGELS has the mythic feel and smell of vintage, crawl-under-the-car and change-the-oil rock and roll.
SLEEPS WITH ANGELS is produced in a simple, uncluttered, rootsy manner, full of gritty, ...
| | Deep Purple Machine Head CDs (1972) Remastered; Deluxe Edition
Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful music CDs
$10.69 This package contains the original MACHINE HEAD plus quadrophonic mixes of 2 songs on one disc, MACHINE HEAD remixed by Roger Glover in 1998, and a 28 page booklet.
A probable contender for one of hard rock's "all-time most influential albums," Deep Purple's MACHINE HEAD has all the markings of a heavy classic. It was here that the band's combination of amped-up blues, progressive instrumental prowess, screaming guitars, and thunderous rhythms was crystallized for the ages, helping to lay the foundation for hard rock and heavy metal throughout the '70s, '80s, and '90s. The lone presence of "Smoke on the Water" immediately elevates the album to essential status. The song became a long-running radio staple, and boasts one of the most instantly recognizable ...

Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful album
$15.05 A seminal deep soul singer with a voice that combined the sheer power of Otis Redding's scratchy holler with the emotional subtlety of Sam Cooke's deathless croon, James Carr routinely tops critics lists of "finest male soul singers," but often goes unrecognized by the general public. His career-making 1967 recording of Dan Penn and Chip Moman's heart wrenching "Dark End of The Street" is the definitive take ...

| | Charles Lane Price Of Air CD (2008)
Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful album
$16.45 Charles Lane’s saxophone playing is a completely emotional experience. His progressive view on art compliments the way he writes, plays and understands music. Bending the rules of jazz by incorporating elements of the hip-hop, pop and jazz idioms, he views music as a forward thinking art-form that should be a reflection of the times, not what was, but what is and what will be. Born and raised in the North suburbs of Chicago, IL., Charles is currently working towards his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance at The University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign, where he is set to graduate in May of 2009. At the U of I he has studied with jazz greats, such as Professors Charles “Chip” McNeill, Teofilo “Tito” Carrillo, Jim Pugh and Dana Hall. Charles is currently on the Dean’s List and maintains a 3.6 cumulative Grade Point Average, in conjunction with his $2,000 Merit Based Music Scholarship and various other academic achievements. He was the youngest saxophone student to be selected for a small-group combo and the highest placed undergraduate saxophone player in the entire University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign Jazz program. His performance record is something to be admired for such a young musician. In the summer of 2005, he was selected with eight other musicians from the Midwest to tour Spain and Portugal with the prestigious Midwest Young Artists ...
