| | Travis Good Feeling CD Travis Discography of CDs
It's rare that bands get second chances, but Travis certainly deserved one. 1997's GOOD FEELING sank almost without trace upon its release, but when 1999's THE MAN WHO became one of the most critically praised albums of the year, many of that album's fans went back and snapped up its predecessor.
What's most impressive about GOOD FEELING is that it's nearly the equal of THE MAN WHO; there isn't a significant jump in quality between the two albums. From sarcastic pop songs like "All I Want to Do is Rock" and "Tied to the '90s" to the folkier "Midsummer Night's Dreamin'" and "More Than Us," Travis maintain a strong musical identity without the self-importance of Oasis or Radiohead, their most obvious points of comparison. If you liked THE MAN WHO, you'll like this. Travis is '90s Britpop at its finest.
Recorded at Bearsville Studios, Bearsville, New York.
Travis: Fran Healy, Andy, Dougie, Neil.
Additional personnel: Page McConnell (keyboards); The Joyous Lake Singers (background vocals).
Entertainment Weekly (10/17/97, p.77) - "...Healy stretches every lunkheaded syllable to its elastic limit, until those words bluster almost anthemic. And this Scot's no one-hit wonder--11 more stunners spell stardom." - Rating: B+ Q (1/98, p.115) - Included in Q Magazine's "50 Best Albums of 1997." Melody Maker (12/20-27/97, pp.66-67) - Ranked #19 on Melody Maker's list of 1997's "Albums Of The Year." Melody Maker (9/13/97, p.48) - "...In a world which deems it impossible to be all things to all people, GOOD FEELING manages to make you laugh, sing, cry, dance, hurt, and, yeah, rock..." NME (Magazine) (12/20-27/97, pp.78-79) - Ranked #29 in NME's 1997 Critics' Poll. NME (Magazine) (9/6/97, p.50) - "...GOOD FEELING contains 12 songs of sturdy brilliance and intermittent beauty....Instead of a blank and passionless exercises in mediocrity, we find a debut of spirited vigour and blatant (but glorious) commercialism..." Good Feeling album
$5.95 Principally recorded at Fudge, New Orleans, Louisiana between January 19 and March 30, 1998.
All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
Better Than Ezra is the kind of band that knows how to go with the musical flow, using their chameleonic qualities to adapt to the changing musical times. They emerged in the wake of Nirvana as post-grunge rockers, full of bad-boy attitude and plangent guitars. On GARDEN they shift gears, embracing the rise of electronica with their newly expanded sonic palette. In place of the rockist beats and Cobainesque vocals and guitar, there's loads of atmospheric, almost trippy synth and a definite trip-hop influence in the rhythm section. Even the vocals are electronically processed on some tunes, for a more cutting-edge sound.
Producer (and Daniel Lanois cohort) Malcolm Burn is surely to thank for helping develop the sound here, which includes a guest horn section, string arrangements and plenty of non-electronic keyboard work (mostly by singer Kevin Griffin). Those who thought Better Than Ezra were just Nirvana wannabees will be presently surprised by the sonic left turn of HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?, ...
| | Blind Melon CD (1992)
Good Feeling CD music
$8.85 Given the preponderance of synthesizers and samples on contemporary radio outlets, fans of guitar bands must be feeling a little let down, when along comes a Blind Melon. BLIND MELON puts a contemporary slant on metal, blues and assorted psychedelia without sounding lost in the past. Nevertheless, their deep roots in classic FM sounds help define their appeal, not unlike that of a Pearl Jam.
Vocalist Hoon howls at the moon in the best tradition of Robert Plant, Ozzy Osbourne and Axl Rose, while the Glen Graham-Brad Smith ...

$14.69 | | Without Gravity Tenderfoot CD (2005)
Good Feeling music CDs
$14.19 Tenderfoot is a beautiful album from Without Gravity, full of slow, loping rural grooves and spectrally pretty vocals from lead singer Kalli (just Kalli). On this debut LP the Icelandic group explores the same expansively ethereal, uncluttered terrain that Irishman Damien Rice explored on his debut, O, but with a bit more of an alt-country bent at times. In "Beautiful Son" -- which moves along at a laid-back acoustic groove, Kalli's gorgeous, jazzy vocals floating atop it all -- the prettiness is in the hushed spaces. ...

| Travis Invisible Band CD (2001)
Good Feeling album
$6.25 This Limited Edition of THE INVISIBLE BAND contains the hidden tracks "Ring Out The Bell" and "You Don't Know What I'm Like" following "The Humpty Dumpty Love Song."
Travis's second album THE MAN WHO made them one of the biggest bands in the UK. With all eyes upon the group for a follow-up, the foursome opts not for the deconstructed expectation-confounded tactics of Radiohead's KID A, but instead continues on the same path they'd already been heading down. THE INVISIBLE BAND is considerably softer than the band's previous albums, pursuing the ballad as transcendent mode of expression, but the popcraft is just as winningly melodic, the guitars just as jangly and inviting, and Fran Healy's songs as subtly accessible as ever.
There are a few unusual touches (the banjo on "Sing," the electronic squiggles ending "Afterglow"), ...
