| | Charles Mingus Let My Children Hear Music CD Charles Mingus Discography of CDs
Recorded in 1972. Includes original liner notes by Charles Mingus and George Kanzler.
Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York).
One of Charles Mingus' most ambitious efforts and among the finest albums from the last stage of his career, this 1972 recording features extended compositions for jazz orchestra. It's serious, sophisticated, modernist music that still swings hard.
Soloists include Charles McPherson, James Moody, and Sir Roland Hanna, with arrangements and orchestrations beautifully handled by Sy Johnson. Mingus called this his personal favorite among all his recordings.
Reissue producer: John Snyder.
Personnel includes: Charles Mingus (acoustic bass); Sy Johnson, Alan Raph, Teo Macero (conductor); Charles McPherson (alto saxophone); James Moody, Bobby Jones (tenor saxophone); Snooky Young, Lonnie Hillyer, Joe Wilder (trumpet); Julius Watkins (French horn); Charles McCraken (cello); Sir Roland Hanna (piano).

Let My Children Hear Music music CDs
$5.85 For this inspired 1994 date, veteran bassist Reggie Workman assembled four fellow avant-garde luminaries: pianist Andrew Hill, saxophonist Sam Rivers, trombonist Julian Priester, and drummer Pheeroan akLaff. By the usual standards of these highly adventurous players, ...
| | Albert Ammons Boogie Woogie Stomp CD (1998)
Let My Children Hear Music songs
$9.99 BOOGIE WOOGIE STOMP contains 14 songs from a 1939 Chicago radio broadcast and four more from a 1938 session.
Recorded in 1938 & 1939. Includes liner notes by Christopher I. Page and Axel Zwingenberger.
BOOGIE WOOGIE STOMP, a collection of rare radio broadcasts by Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis, and Pete Johnson, reveals how the spirit of the boogie woogie style became the basis for all popular music that followed. Ammons' rollicking and rolling on the keys foretells the coming of be-bop, R&B, and rock & roll all at once. Ammons, Lewis, and Johnson cut the majority of these sides at the Hotel Sherman in Chicago in 1939. What flowed forth was a tumult of raucous swing-part ragtime and part old-fashioned blues-that ...
| | Milt Hinton Here Swings The Judge CD (1975)
Let My Children Hear Music album
$12.09 Milt Hinton was probably the most recorded bassist in the history of music as a whole, but relatively few recordings were released under his own name. This LP was his first as a leader (if you don't count an earlier duo LP with Jo Jones) and it consists of private recordings that Hinton made with tenor saxophone great Ben Webster prior to Webster's departure for Europe in 1964; the remaining tracks come from a Harry Lim-produced studio session featuring Budd Johnson, Frank Wess, Jon Faddis, John Bunch, and Jo Jones. Although the sessions by Hinton and Webster are informal in nature, they are very rewarding. Their duo performance of "Sophisticated Lady" takes on a new degree of subtlety compared to Webster's better-known recordings of this masterpiece by Duke Ellington. Their take of "All the Things You Are" picks up the pace quite a bit, featuring some masterful playing by both men. ...

Let My Children Hear Music album
$27.59 This album could also be called "Music in 15 Parts Where Chords, Harmony, Rhythm, and Melody Don't Play a Part at All." It would be true. This set features three improvisers who don't see each other very often and never rehearse. They just show up for the occasional gig and make, as Fred Van Hove calls it, "extravagant music." He's right, of course. This music is indeed an extravagance in that it comes from an individual's ...
