| | Buckinghams Mercy, Mercy, Mercy CD Buckinghams Discography of CDs
Chicago's Buckinghams were one of the first examples of what music writer Eddie Gorodetsky later termed "goatee rock," a blend of British Invasion pop and Stax/Volt soul that had elements of both but didn't really sound much like either. This sound eventually transmuted into the jazz-tinged horn rock of Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago, or Three Dog Night, however the Buckinghams were a much poppier group.
The four big hits on this excellent 18-track compilation, the title track, "Kind of a Drag," Don't You Care," and "Hey Baby, They're Playing Our Song," are the kind of instantly familiar, yet not overplayed, singles that are the hallmark of a good oldies radio station. The other tracks, including a handful of rarities and unreleased cuts, are similarly soulful pop gems. The package includes copious liner notes, rare photos, and excellently remastered sound. | | Chicago: At Carnegie Hall CDs (1971) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy CD music
$30.49 After issuing three consecutive studio double LPs, Chicago topped themselves with this four-album live box set. As the title suggests, At Carnegie Hall, Vols. 1-4 (Chicago IV) (1971) finds the band at the venerable New York City venue during a five-night stand (April 5-April 10) in the spring of 1971. The septet -- which includes the respective talents of Terry Kath (lead guitar/vocals), Robert Lamm (keyboards/vocals), Peter Cetera (bass/vocals), Danny Seraphine (drums), Lee Loughnane (trumpet/vocals), James Pankow (trombone), and Walter Parazaider (woodwinds/vocals) -- were at their unquestionable peak of initial popularity. Their previous three double LPs continued extended runs on the pop album chart and likewise spawned a number of hit singles. So by the time the group hit the Big Apple for these shows, they were among the hottest things happening. Chicago's set list is wholly representative of the material from Chicago Transit Authority (1969), Chicago II (1970), and Chicago III (1971) and includes several extended multi-song medleys from each. The band winds its way through muscular versions of the epic "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon," "Travel Suite," as well as lengthy renderings of deeper ...

$15.85 The second in the Greensleeves series of single-riddim records, Virus was produced by the Madd Dawgz production team, and laid down by drummer Mikey Williamson and keyboardists Tony Thomas and Christopher Meredith. Stripped back but bristling with menace, this riddim infected a slew of DJs, old hands succumbing alongside such newcomers as Lexxus, Kiprich, Madd Anju, Egg Nog, and Frassman. The sweet, romantic Delon help listeners identify the riddim's antecedents, Britney Spears' "One More Time," but few others will nod in that direction. Instead, the mighty Capleton sets the standard with his ferocious "Caan Hold We Dung." Mad Cobra lays down the law to women, while Degree is surrounded by "pure sexy bodies," Elephant Man by women troubles, but ...
