This Canadian singer has a pop-rock style reminiscent of Sheryl Crow, with a dash of Melissa Etheridge's growl. Her earlier influences range from folk-popper James Taylor (evident on "Trust Me [This Is Love]") to her countryman Bryan Adams ("Sitting On Top Of The World"). As in Crow's songs, characters from all walks of life populate Marshall's songs, whether it's the Southern homemaker escaping her alcoholic spouse in "Birmingham" or the lost soul looking for salvation in "Last Exit To Eden." Only 10 songs long, AMANDA MARSHALL is a tasty appetizer for what promises to be a delectable body of work.
Personnel: Amanda Marshall (vocals); David Wipper (acoustic guitar, mandolin); Tim Pierce (acoustic & electric guitars); Bob Mann (acoustic guitar); Tommy Byrnes (electric guitar); Peter Kent (violin); Erica Duke-Kirkpatrick (cello); T-Bone Wolk (accordion); Louis Taylor (soprano saxophone); David Tyson (keyboards, programming, background vocals); Leland Sklar (bass); Kenny Aronoff (drums, percussion); Diana DeWitt (background vocals).
Q (8/96, pp.122-123) - 3 Stars - Good - "...Her voice is strong and true and not overly prone to histrionics, even when the songs are more concerned with loss rather than celebration..." Amanda Marshall Review

Amanda Marshall album
$6.85 All tracks have been digitally remastered using 20-bit technology.
Ultradiscs are mastered from the original master tapes using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary mastering technique, then plated with 24 karat gold and housed in a stress-resistant lift-lock jewel box.
As British bands like Yes, ELP, and Genesis extended the borders of rock & roll, John McLaughlin had seized the opportunity to do the same with jazz. The first stars of the jazz/rock fusion camp, the Mahavishnu Orchestra played sellout concerts, sold records in quantities previously unheard of by jazz musicians, and captured a crossover audience of forward-looking jazz devotees and progressive rock fans.
The music on THE INNER MOUNTING FLAME is incendiary and highly improvisational. Well-conceived unison melodic passages structure each tune, ...

| | Dennis Wilson Pacific Ocean Blue: Limited Deluxe Edition CDs (1977) (Import)
Amanda Marshall music CDs
$35.49 Though largely ignored upon its original release in 1977, and previously available on CD for a very brief time in the early 1990s, the sole solo album released by Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson in his lifetime has long been considered a lost masterpiece. PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE could not be further from the surf and sand, cars and girls world of the Beach Boys' early hits. In its mix of lavish orchestrations, funereal tempos, and haunted, often depressing lyrics, PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE sounds like the spiritual heir not only of PET SOUNDS, but of Neil Young's TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT. The two-disc reissue contains outtakes from this album's sesssions as well as the entirety of Wilson's never-released second solo album, written and recorded in 1978 and '79.
Deluxe Edition Two CD set of 33 tracks with Limited Edition First Run Collector's Packaging. After 30 years, this lost classic reemerges to the delight of fans worldwide. Since coming out in 1977, this CD had only been released for six months in 1991. This collection contains never officially released tracks from Dennis' Bambu album which only existed as bootlegs for decades. Per Dennis Wilson 'Everything that I am or will ever be is in the music. If you want to know me, just listen.' Features 'Holy Man' an unfinished track that never received Dennis' vocal part with Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters laying down brand new vocals. ...
| | Taylor Swift Fearless CD (2008) Enhanced CD
Amanda Marshall songs
$14.59 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age--a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing--and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit--is sharply, subtly crafted and the music is softly assured, never pushing its hooks too hard. Like many country-pop albums of the 2000s, the pop heavily outweighs the country--there aren't fiddles here, there are violins--yet the production never feels garish, a crass attempt at a crossover success. It's small-scale and sweetly tuneful, always seeming humble even when the power ballads build to a big close. Swift's gentle touch is as enduring as her songcraft, and this musical maturity may not quite jibe ...
| | Justin Bieber My World CD (2009) Enhanced CD
Amanda Marshall album
$8.19 Within a couple years, Canadian teenager Justin Bieber went from covering Usher on YouTube to working with Usher. An internet sensation from his renditions of several pop and pop-oriented R&B hits, he was still only 15 years old when he released this, his first album -- though it's more like an EP since it is contains only seven songs that are 25 minutes in duration. Given the comfort level he showed in the material he covered, My World plays it straight, based on the kind of age-appropriate content that would fill out a release from a younger Chris Brown or a junior version of Ne-Yo. Members of the Clutch, Midi Mafia, "Tricky" Stewart, Usher, and a handful of other notable ...
| | Beatles - A Hard Day's Night DVDs (1964)
Amanda Marshall CD music
$10.49 A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring a hangover-suffering Ringo is especially funny, particularly when he is arrested and risks having to miss the broadcast. None of this goes unnoticed by the director of the show, played by Victor Spinetti, ...

| | Psychedelic Furs Mirror Moves CD (1984)
Amanda Marshall music CDs
$6.99 For their fourth album, MIRROR MOVES, the Psychedelic Furs moved further away from their proto-punk roots. In fact, other than Richard Butler's cigarette-ravaged voice, the occasional shard of guitar distortion, and the tell-tale '80s production sound, nothing on the album would be out of place on contemporary Top-40 radio. Were all pop music this good, the world couldn't help but be a better place. The Furs co-opted the mainstream into their sound, with the result being a nearly perfect pop masterpiece made without sacrificing ...
