1975's NIGHTRIDER is hugely beloved by Charlie Daniels Band fans, who think its mix of bluegrass, rock and pop strikes the perfect balance between the edgier sound of the band's early albums and the slick commercialism of their URBAN COWBOY-era hits. (The band performs this album's rollicking opening track, "Texas," in a bar scene in that movie.)
Daniels and crew, including new recruit Tom Crain, whose "Franklin Limestone" is a highlight and whose songs and playing would contribute much to the group's next several albums, explore pure country somewhat more than usual on this album. "Willie Jones" and "Birmingham Blues" are Johnny Cash-like story songs, while the more rock-oriented "Funky Junky" and "Evil" explore the moralism that would become more prevalent on Daniels' later albums.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

Nightrider album
$8.15 Captain Beyond is a one-of-a-kind progressive album with rock, heavy metal, and jazz influences with a "space rock" lyrical bend. Formed by former members of Deep Purple (Rod Evans, vocals), Iron Butterfly (Rhino, lead guitar, and Lee Dorman, bass), and Johnny Winter (Bobby Caldwell, drums) Captain Beyond is an album that flows from riff to riff, drumbeat to drumbeat, often with various time signatures within the same song. Taking a tip from the Moody Blues, songs flow directly into each other without benefit of any lag time between selections. Taken as a whole, the album is kind of a rush, as quick, riff-laden ...
| | Henry Paul Grey Ghost CD (1979)
Nightrider CD music
$12.39 Henry Paul was a rhythm guitarist and vocalist for the Outlaws. He left the group in 1977 after its third album. He formed the Henry Paul Band in 1978 and signed to Atlantic later that year. Grey Ghost is the band's debut, and it is drenched in Southern rock influences as well as those of '70s West Coast bands such as the Eagles. The opening cut, "So Long," combines folk, country-rock, and the over the top guitar punch of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers, while "Crossfire" sounds like the Joe Walsh-era Eagles jamming with the Pure Prairie League and "Foolin'" has the Byrds' signature all over it. But to say that Paul and his band merely copied what was out there wouldn't be fair. Grey Ghost is a fine album; the songcraft is tight and crisp, the lead and harmony vocals are crystalline, and the production is unobtrusive. But those twin guitar leads that sound like they come from the Allmans' "Ramblin' Man" are a bit ...

| | Vitamin W Love Drug CD (2003)
Nightrider CD music
$12.39 Vitamin W\'s \"Cybercreep\" is cut from the same excellent cloth that defined the 1980\'s incarnation of King Crimson (Fripp, Bruford, Belew, Levin).-- J. Eric Smith, professional rock critic\"Cybercreep\" is my fave.... I love them all, of course, but really, \"Cybercreep\" and \"Trashed Audi,\" they\'re the ones I\'m liking these days (sure do love it when the noise kicks in on \"Cybercreep\" at 2:39, at any rate)...-- Vitamin W\"Cybercreep\" is a particularly brilliant bit of aural collage, really forming a great centerpiece to The Love Drug.-- J. Eric Smith, ultimately medically evicted from military serviceKind of a sad song, \"Cybercreep,\" ain\'t it?? \"the lonesome foghorn blows,\" or \"the lonesome concentration camp siren sounds\"...I was delighted that somebody5 thought there was a police car after her at some point when she was listening [hey, it happened to me, too, the first few thousand times I listened to it....-- Vitamin WIt\'s great stuff. We all know it, so should they.-- J. Eric Smith, noted accurate cultural barometerNow that I\'m listening on something other than computer speakers, I can tell it\'s simply NOT RIGHT to mix it the way I did, with as much dynamic range as i did, cause people will fucking kill themselves and/or blow out their speakers and/or wonder why ...

Nightrider songs
$12.59 Buick Audra is a singer and songwriter living between Brooklyn and Nashville. Her musical path has led her through everything from hard rock to country. Her mother made it a point to take her to live performances whenever possible, which included Blondie, Rickie Lee Jones, Christopher Cross, The Pretenders, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Bob Dylan. To this day, Buick's musical influences remain as varied. Her core band has always included very close members of her family and friends.
