Testify album Product Description
Testify album by Phil Collins was released Jan 13, 2008 on the WEA (Distributor) label. On his first studio album since 1996's DANCE INTO THE LIGHT, Phil Collins returns to the introspective sounds that characterized 1993's BOTH SIDES and his debut, FACE VALUE. While TESTIFY lacks anything quite as catchy as the best tracks on those two records, the disc does contain some of Collins's most artistically mature work, especially in the lyric department. Testify music CDs Unlike many of his painfully out-of-touch classic rock contemporaries, Collins has aged gracefully, quietly exploring the passage of time with honesty and genuine empathy. Testify songs Sonically, he sticks pretty close to his guns, although the electronic sounds are somewhat more pronounced here than on his other albums. Collins has always been good at incorporating the latest technology in a wonderfully organic manner, and the music on TESTIFY is no exception. Like Elton John's stunning SONGS FROM THE WEST COAST, Phil Collins's 2002 effort seems like the work of a man driven to create by a love of craft rather than a desire for radio play. ...See Full Description

| Well done, Phil People are stupid. They expect every record to be the same. They expect an artist to not evolve or change at all. The fact is, Ladies and Gentlemen, Phil is becoming a more and more sophisticated adult every day, and it shows in his music. What we have here is not an artist trying to recreate Sussudio from the '80's, but instead trying to create a lyrically strong, very deep record, and he has done this very very well. This record isn't for everyone. I was a bit disappointed to see so much drum machine being used, but it does fit the songs. Don't listen to those who are ignorent. Give it a listen for yourself, and see that Phil accomplished what he set out to do. Make good music. By a reviewer (Cedar Falls, Iowa) This review is for a different format. |
| Overdue Material From Phil Collins It appears that this is the most laid back album he's done yet. Good music but just a little too laid back. Would love to see another album like "But Seriously Folks". Maybe the next one will be more like his older material. He still is a great musician though. | Too Little Too Late This CD should have been put out as an EP rather than a full album! "Wake Up Call", "It's Not Too Late", and the single "Can't Stop Loving You" are the only decent cuts on the CD. When I first put the CD on and heard "Wake Up Call" I thought that Phil had finally come to his senses and had made an interesting CD for a change rather than another Michael Bolton-esque mess. But no such luck. With the notable exception of the 3 cuts I listed, this is the same old boring stuff you've come to expect from Phil. And this is sad! Phil is one of the best drummers in the business and respected as a great musician by people in all forms of music! So do we get to hear any great drumming on this CD? Any jazzy playing like on his earlier CDs? Of course not! His singing is still as good as ever; but most of the songs are incredibly lame. My hope is that someday Phil will team up with some people like Tower of Power and put out a good drum oriented jazz/rock CD like he is capable of.
