(2 Customer Reviews)
Beck's devoted following regards 1985's FLASH as one of his more controversial releases. Instead of issuing another expected guitar-heavy work, Beck sought out innovative dance producer Nile Rodgers to oversee the majority of the albums' tracks and lend an electronic, ultra-'80s sound throughout (best heard on the album-opening "Ambitious"). But FLASH does contain one of Beck's best-known tracks, a hit cover of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready," featuring soaring Beck's soaring blues licks and soulful vocals from old buddy and ex-bandmate Rod Stewart.
Engineers include: Chris Lord-Alge, Eric Mohler, Andy Wallace.
Personnel: Jeff Beck (guitar); Rod Stewart, Jimmy Hall (vocals); Carmine Appice, Arthur Baker, Jimmy Bralower, Jay Burnett, Barry DeSouza, Jan Hammer, Duane Hitchings, Tony Hymas, Nile Rodgers, Rob Sabino, Richard Scher, Curly Smith, Jeff Smith, Doug Wimbish, Tina B., Curtis King, Jimmy Hall, David Simms, Frank Simms, George Simms, David Spinner.

| | Best Of The Jazz Crusaders CD (1993)
Flash CD music
$9.29 THE BEST OF THE JAZZ CRUSADERS contains a mixture of live and studio tracks recorded between 1961 and 1966. The live tracks were recorded at The Lighthouse, Hermosa Beach, California on August 5 & 6, 1962.
In their earliest days, the core group of musicians from Houston, Texas now known to jazz, R&B and pop fans as The Crusaders were known as The Jazz Crusaders. Their approach and repertoire bore a strong resemblance to Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.
As the Jazz Crusaders recorded often on Pacific Jazz throughout the 1960s, boiling down that output to a mere nine songs ...

Flash songs
$15.95 Ryan Moore, an alumnus of the Legendary Pink Dots and the Tear Garden, has been releasing solo albums of instrumental dub reggae under the name Twilight Circus (or Twilight Circus Dub Sound System) since 1995, mostly on his own M label. But his experiments with the genre go back to the early '80s, when he first started acquiring vintage analog recording equipment (to get that inimitably swampy, rootswise 1970s sound) and multi-tracking home recordings of his compositions. Dub from the Secret Vaults is a selection of previously unreleased recordings, including some that were recorded straight to cassette during those early days. One would expect an album like this to be wildly uneven in quality, and mainly of interest only to die-hard fans. But in fact, it's only slightly uneven, and most of it will appeal to anyone who appreciates the vintage dub sounds of King Tubby, Augustus Pablo, and Lee "Scratch" Perry. Really, only one track -- the queasy and aimless "Twilight C Meets Tommy Z" -- truly disappoints. Everything else exemplifies both the dense, wet reggae sound of which Moore is an undisputed master and the melodic invention that is necessary to keep instrumental reggae interesting for more than a minute or two at a time. Highlights include the aptly titled "Electric Africa" and the equally aptly titled "One Drop," as well as the melodica-driven "Achou." Highly recommended. ~ Rick Anderson
SPIN - "...Wrestles with history's titans and leaves the ring commanding 'nuff respect..a landmark in post hiphop sound engineering." XLR8R - "...The heaviest original dub sounds on the planet!" THE WIRE - "..Dubmeister extraordinaire...this is as good as newly created dub gets these days." EXCLAIM! - "Moore's songwriting and recording technique remains superior to anyone working in dub today." REGGAE VIBES - "One of the most creative and original Dub wizards in the world!"Twilight Circus Dub Sound System is the product of one Ryan Moore. When we say "one" we mean "one." A multi- instrumentalist, Ryan plays and mixes all the tracks himself in the studio he built himself with the analog gear he painstakingly sought out and purchased himself. Instead of digital gear, Ryan often uses live instrumentation (all the way down to single drum hits themselves) and mixes his dubs live. In other words, he is a one-man dub army. Ryan grew up in the dense, gummy forests of Vancouver, where he was exposed to reggae at an early age. He became obsessed with the genre & learned to play multiple instruments by playing along with classic Jamaican recordings. By 1981, Ryan was working as a studio musician for Nettwerk Records. He went on to become a member of Legendary Pink Dots, and Tear Garden (with cEvin Key of Skinny Puppy). But his obsession with dub & reggae was too strong, and in 1995 he released his first album as Twilight Circus Dub Sound System on his own M Records. He has since gone on to release over 10 albums and countless singles, EPs, & Dub plates to worldwide acclaim & respect from his peers--as evidenced on last year's Foundation Rockers (M), which featured collaborations with Mykal Rose of Black Uhuru, Luciano, Ranking Joe and the legendary Big Youth (who also makes an appearance on Dub from the Secret Vaults). Dub from the Secret Vaults is Twilight Circus' 11th full-length album and first to ...

$17.45 Massacra substantiated the world-beating death/thrash credentials that were hinted at by 1990's Final Holocaust debut with their aptly named second album, 1991's Enjoy the Violence, which summarily grabbed that nasty sophomore slump fellow by the throat and beat him to bloody a pulp! Even though it barely deviated from its predecessor's template -- thrashy death metal laden with apocalyptic themes -- the album boasted a slightly cleaner production at the expense of only mere ounces of the group's precious sonic ferocity, all the while bolstering its makers' reputations as incredible musicians with the remarkable precision necessary to pull off their frantically challenging songs. Just listen as vocalist/bassist Pascal Jürgensen somehow manages to juggle both the band's reliable bottom end and the inhuman growls hovering over it all; as guitarists Fred Duval and Jean-Marc ...
