| | Ted Nugent Live At Hammersmith '79 CD Ted Nugent Discography of CDs
Recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, England on May 9, 1979. Includes liner notes by Gary Graff.
In 1979, Ted Nugent was still flying high on the success of such hit albums as CAT SCRATCH FEVER and DOUBLE LIVE GONZO, and was one of hard rock's top concert attractions. Not issued until 1997, LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH '79 captures the Nuge at his live peak, rocking a British audience like there was no tomorrow.
Even though original singer/guitarist Derek St. Holmes had split from the Nuge by this point, LIVE is just as strong as DOUBLE LIVE GONZO. Ted and his band let it rip from beginning to end--just check out such brash rockers as "Free For All," "Paralyzed," and "Dog Eat Dog."
This is part of Legacy Records' Live From The Vaults series.
Personnel: Ted Nugent (vocals, guitar, percussion); Charlie Huhn (vocals, guitar); Cliff Davies (vocals, vibraphone, drums); Steve McRay (keyboards); Dave Kiswiney (bass); Tom Werman (percussion).
Compilation producer: Bob Irwin.

| | Collective Soul Afterwords CD (2007)
Live At Hammersmith '79 CD music
$13.19 After delving a bit too deeply into glam on 2004's Youth, their first foray into indie recordings, Collective Soul straightens things out on its 2007 follow-up, Afterwords. Contrary to the implication of the title of "New Vibration" -- the hard-hitting opener on this, their seventh album -- Afterwords brings the band close to how they sounded about a decade before, when they were riding the peak of their popularity and when modern rock bands could still be heard on the radio because there was modern mainstream rock radio. If this kind of radio still existed in 2007, Collective Soul could still have hits, at least with an album like Afterwords that unapologetically plays to their core strengths of hooky, sturdy songs, delivered unpretentiously but grandly, as if they were designed to fill an arena. There may be no one song as grabbing as "Gel" or gently transcendent as "Shine" -- or even anthemic as that power ballad classic "The World I Know" -- but the songs are big and tuneful, crying out for the appealingly glossy production they're given. Collective Soul needs that kind of huge, clean production -- the kind of ...

Live At Hammersmith '79 music CDs
$9.73 Eugene, Oregon's Cherry Poppin' Daddies came together in the gray light of the pre-Grunge dawn, when America's rock underground was defined not by sloppy guitar groups but instead by phenoms like Fishbone, Faith No More, Bad Brains, the Meat Puppets, and early incarnations of the Chili Peppers and Suicidal Tendencies/ Infectious Grooves; bands that ...

| | Leonard Cohen New Skin For The Old Ceremony CD (1974)
Live At Hammersmith '79 album
$6.89 NEW SKIN is full of emotionally harrowing moments. On "Is This What You Wanted," Cohen is haunted by the ghost of a relationship that may not even be over yet. "A Singer Must Die" finds him taken to task by the world at large (and himself) for some imagined treason intrinsic to his chosen profession. As effective as they are, these tumultuous scenarios are wisely offset by the black humor of the aforementioned "Why Don't You Try" and the over-the-top "Leaving Greensleeves." In all, this is one of Cohen's strongest and most overlooked albums.
Though it is the least acclaimed of Leonard Cohen's early albums, NEW SKIN is one of his best, easily the equal of its three predecessors. ...
