Occasionally, talent runs in the family. Consider the Robison Brothers, Charlie and Bruce, who released simultaneous albums on Pete Anderson's Lucky Dog label. Both turn the Texas troubadour aesthetic into something distinctive, but each has his own musical voice. While Charlie is more of a honky-tonker, Bruce's work leans more toward the poetic and introspective. He leans more solidly on the singer-songwriter tradition than his brother, coming as a kind of Austin James Taylor. The key element here is the country-derived earthiness that Robison brings to his sharply observed acoustic ballads. His raw, emotive voice serves to remove any distance between himself and the listener, as he sings about the feelings nearest his heart. If you're in doubt as to the autobiographical nature of these intimate-sounding tunes, a clue is provided by the presence of "My Brother and Me."
Recorded at the Hit Shack, Austin, Texas.

| | Ian Henderson Freefall CD (2002) (Import)
Wrapped songs
$10.29 *** Nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA) in "Best Album - Adult Contemporary" category.++++++++++'Freefall' is the sound of a musical plan coming together beautifully... As is the new style, acoustic instruments and personal lyrics mix comfortably with their electronic cousins and these inventive arrangements give these songs space and time to grow and expose their charms... But ultimately it is Ian Henderson's rough-sweet vocals, thoughtful piano touches and obvious songwriting skills that give this bright debut its winning core. 'Freefall' into this! (SA Rock Digest - http://www.sarockdigest.com)++++++++++There's a world of music out there - much of it being made by passionate singers and writers not much known outside of their city or country. And some of it is astoundingly good. Ian Henderson's music is a well of bittersweet waters, holding dark and light, sweet and sour in seemingly effortless tensionOn the darkest nights, we see the brightest lights. With our feet firmly rooted to the ground, we reach for the stars: "I'm reformed, I'm forgiven, forgotten" bellows the passionate voice of desire, ambition, regret. Strongly autobiographical, Henderson's lyrics caress eternally valid themes: love, loss, connection, abandonment. ...

| | Gina Morresi Secret Diaries Of The Virgin Whore CD (2009)
Wrapped CD music
$12.65 Meshing together the thoughtful, yet playful tendencies of Sheryl Crow with the grungy, edgier qualities of Joan Joan and Chrissy Hynde, Gina Morresi, along with the help of the Churchill producing team, has created a musical concoction of self-discovery; a work in progress, if you will, that describes the peeling back of layers, to reveal an artist, a woman, a friend, a lover, and a human being. Secret Diaries of the Virgin Whore dives into a number of musical genre pools, by blending catchy, tongue and cheek pop songs that parallel the likes of the Donnas and Kelly Clarkson with story-telling folk-alt-country based music that Dylan and Lucinda would enjoy. In addition, the album also reveals, in smaller doses, the inner-tortured rocker, ala Alanis Morrisette and Pink that is dying to break free from Morresi, while also showing glimmers of the Jimmy Buffet-beach bum that lies within her. Appropriately, the album was contrived and recorded in Long Branch, NJ, during a time of rebirth for the NJ shore. Morresi, a Jersey girl at heart, seems to reflect this bittersweet resurrection in her music; the Asbury park carousel, with its decaying features eating away at the ponies, only allowing bursts of pinks and blues of its hey-day to peek through, sits idly, awaiting its final demise. Although its demolition will pave ...
