| | Chapin Sisters Lake Bottom LP CD Chapin Sisters Discography of CDs
The Chapin Sisters present rather sober singer/songwriter folk on their debut album, prettily sung in arrangements that emphasize the three sisters' close vocal harmonies. It's not folk music of the traditional kind, but it doesn't feel quite right calling it folk-rock either, as the arrangements have very little rock influence, dominated by Abigail Chapin and Lily Chapin's acoustic guitars, with some bass and electric violin being heard as well. Much of the material focuses on quirky relationship songs, with twists on romantic clichés that are so deadpan that they could easily be mistaken for straightforward love tunes if you didn't listen closely. Any satirical elements are certainly far less overt than they are in the songs of, say, Loudon Wainwright III, and the songs are perhaps too smoothly and seriously sung for any intended irony to be fully appreciated. Words aside, it's attractively performed and crafted with more unusual bittersweet melodies than is common for the genre, though it's not a stunner in these departments. "I Hate the Moon" is a standout for its eeriness, accentuated by guest David Coulter's singing saw. ~ Richie Unterberger
The full length debut from Los Angeles's The Chapin Sisters recorded in the Summer of 2007. The Chapin Sisters (three actual sisters) wed lilting voices, dynamically complex vocal harmonies, and folk-influenced melodies to dark, wryly sarcastic lyrical
Personnel: Abigail Chapin, Lily Chapin, Mike Daly (guitar); David Coulter (electric violin); Thom Monahan (piano, organ, keyboards, percussion); Louis Stephens (keyboards).
Audio Mixer: Thom Monahan.
Dirty Linen (p.77) - "The Chapin Sisters are steeped in American artistic pedigree....The voices are sweet and melodious, making the message incongruous and more jarring, but oh so intriguing." Chapin Sisters Lake Bottom LP Songs | 1. | Let Me Go |

Lake Bottom LP music CDs
$15.19 GESTIRE LO SPAZIOWith only an electric bass… as simple as thatA disc like no other: all the beautiful pieces in this album have been composed and played by Tiziano Zanotti on a solo electric bass, with the supplement of a few and quite singular electronic effects and the unexpected and fleeting “injection” of an acoustic piano. All tracks are by the musician himself, except tracks 6-13 by T.Zanotti/N.Ciarmatori. Track 14 is dedicated to Bruno Maderna.---------------------------EXTRACT FROM PRODUCER'S LINER NOTES:"This solo bass project had been around for quite a long time, initially just as a live show... It was certainly a big challenge for Tiziano Zanotti to show that the electric bass can be a valuable instrument in its own right on a whole disc, able to hold the listener’s attention with no support other than a few and unobtrusive effects and percussion sounds. Can the bass be a full solo instrument, as powerful and expressive as a piano or a guitar? Well, after listening to this cd, I believe it can. I was transported by its beautiful melodies, with Jazz, Blues and Classical (even Renaissance!) influences, and was completely amazed by the different sounds and shades produced by a 6-string bass... The musician told me that he first had to structure the basic shape of most of the pieces in writing - just like a classical composer, as he so deeply is, and then improvised to develop his musical ideas, modify balances, explore new harmonies, all the time seeking to exploit the instrument’s full potential. In the end, one thing stands out: this inspiring work by Tiziano Zanotti presents us with a new and very personal way of experiencing and playing the electric bass." $15.19 For co-leaders Justin Flynn and Jeremy Bacon, their musical travels together began well before this record was made. As Flynn says, “We had played together as a duo and in a number of larger groups, and our musical affinity was complemented by our friendship. It seemed natural to try to capture both on a recording.” The next question, adds Bacon, ...
