One of the most innovative musical voices of the second generation of Detroit techno producers, Carl Craig is also a noted DJ and remixer. SESSIONS, a double-disc mix set, is a useful career recap, focusing on his own productions as well as remixes for a diverse cast of underground dance artists. From Craig's own minimal, funked-up alias' 69, Paperclip People, and Innerzone Orchestra, to his imaginative reworkings of classics by Chez Damier and Rhythm & Sound, the set provides insight into the creative mind of one of electronic music's master technicians.
DJ: Carl Craig.
Audio Remixer: Carl Craig.Spin (p.94) - 4.5 stars out of 5 -- "[H]is techno work -- which draws from disco, electro, drum'n'bass, ambient, garage, and more -- is too expansive to fit under one roof." The Wire (p.45) - "[T]he newer work is studded with classics central not just to Craig's discography but the development of the second and third generations of Detroit Techno and, in turn, the scenes they've influenced." Record Collector (magazine) (p.88) - 5 stars out of 5 -- "Craig is one of the few artists constantly taking this music somewhere new, while never losing sight of the soul. Magnificent." Sessions music CDs
$13.89 Indian music will always have its traditionalists and its contemporary pop artists; this is true in India itself, and it is true in England and other countries that attract a lot of Indian immigrants. When the 21st century arrived, Ali Akbar Khan was considered an elder statesman of traditional Indian classical music -- April 13, 2002, in fact, marked the veteran sarod virtuoso's 80th birthday. Khan was still 79 when he recorded From Father to Son, which has that title because it features his son, Alam Khan. This CD (which documents a May 2001 concert at St. John's Presbyterian ...
| | Introducing The Telepathic Butterflies CD (2002)
Sessions songs
$12.05 Every now and then a band comes from out of nowhere and makes a record that leaves you stunned. You wonder why you never saw it coming: Where is the hype, the hoopla, the Hives-esque promotional push? One surmises that when a band comes from a non-musical hotbed like Montreal and records for a teeny tiny label, they are most likely bound to be unheralded. Well, consider this the hoopla, the trumpeting, and the shouting from the rooftops. This is a great record! A really great record! If you like rock & roll music with hooks, guts, and emotion, you really should give the Telepathic Butterflies' 2000 album Nine Songs (there are actually 12!) a listen. To make it easier for you, here are some touchstones: the Kinks; the Creation (and other great British psych bands like the Move and John's Children); Donovan (whose "Epistle to Dippy" they cover in smashing style); the Records; Guided by Voices before they hit a real studio; the Elephant Six bands like the Apples in Stereo, only minus the whimsy; and Sloan. These are all bands ...

| | Johnny Cymbal Cymbal,Johnny Vol. 2-Some Songs I Left Behind CD (2008)
Sessions songs
$15.89 Johnny Cymbal was born in Ochitree, Scotland on February 3, 1945 and named John Hendry Blair. People often thought Johnny Cymbal was a stage name, but that was not the case. At a young age, he was adopted by his mother's second husband, Nick (possibly Nikolas) Cymbal, who was a Polish national and a member of the Free Polish Forces stationed in Scotland during World War II. John, who always spoke of Nick as his father, took that surname, and thereafter was known as John Hendry Cymbal. When Johnny was seven or eight years old, the family moved from Scotland to Goderich, Ontario, Canada, and later to Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up outside Toronto and then Cleveland, during the genesis of rock and roll, Johnny (who was a fan of, and heavily influenced by, Elvis Presley) became fixated on music and quickly taught himself guitar. He began writing his own songs and singing at the age of 13.During a career that spanned four decades, Johnny Cymbal was a songwriter, singer, performer and record producer. In addition to his rock and roll anthem, “Mr. Bass Man”, he was responsible for hit records including: “Teenage Heaven”, “Cinnamon”, “Mary In The Morning,” “Rock Me Baby” and “I'm Drinking Canada Dry”.First and foremost, Johnny Cymbal thought of himself as a songwriter; throughout his life he kept diaries of ideas and notes for future use. Though he was an excellent vocalist with a wonderful stage presence, he believed his greatest talent was composing. By 1966, having married and started a family, he no longer wished to be on the road as a performer so he committed himself to songwriting. Thereafter, although he continued to make records as a singer throughout his career, most of those recordings were released with the names of others (such as his brother, Derek) or pseudonymic "groups" as the artist.A prolific composer, Johnny has a catalog of over 200 published songs. During his career he wrote alone and with many partners, including: CMA Hall Of Famer Charlie Black; Austin Roberts of “I.O.U.” fame; Mark Sameth; multiple CMA award winner Gene Pistilli; legendary Nashville writer David Malloy; ...
