Knowledge Of Self CD music
$20.89 Released just six months after CATCH A FIRE, BURNIN' is the equal of its predecessor in its musical focus and passion, yet it contains--arguably--an even better batch of songs. Leaner, tighter, and simultaneously more hard-hitting and more hook-oriented than the songs on CATCH A FIRE, the set list here dazzles. Two tracks in particular, the inspirational civil rights anthem "Get Up, Stand Up" and the story-song "I Shot the Sheriff," are among the best songs Bob Marley ever wrote. The uncompromising tone of the former reveals the band's militant ...

$17.09 Phynix was born and raised in Philadelphia where his spectacular voice was recognized at an early age. He studied classical music at McGill University in Montreal majoring in vocal performance. After finalizing his university studies and subsequent training in Manhattan under soprano Eleanor Steber, world-renowned soloist of the Metropolitan Opera, he returned to Canada to begin developing his true gift of musicality. Throughout his career he has been acclaimed as a musical genius, whether playing his guitar, his drums, his piano and now, since the early 80's his MIDI instruments. (Musical Instruments Digital Interface). Using MIDI, Phynix is able to combine flavors that would need orchestras of various genres to duplicate. Currently he works with Producer John Herberman, Gold and Platinum Album winner and 3 time JUNO nominee. His music spans, combines and integrates influences from his classical background, various "world" influences and his African ancestral roots.Phynix has worked over the years in two aspects of his career. In the 70's and early 80's he was much acclaimed with his 'adult' music. During that period, the CBC produced an orchestrated album of his songs entitled "Beverly Copeland". This was soon followed by another commercial album entitled "Beverly Glenn-Copeland" on the GRT label featuring as well Doug Riley (composer, pianist and producer) and Lenny Breau (guitarist). Phynix appeared on and was the subject of many CBC television and radio shows. As well, he was a featured vocalist on albums by Bruce Cockburn and Cat Stevens. In the early 80's he released two albums on his own label entitled "Keyboard Fantasies" and "At Last". He also wrote scores for a National Film Board animated film entitled "Sea Dream", for a film entitled "Clowns" commissioned for Ontario Place and a full-length feature film entitled "Montreal Main". During these years Phynix performed throughout Canada in various venues and on radio and television. Recently the Canada Pops Orchestra, under the direction of David Warrack, performed one of Phynix's songs for their Christmas concert (2002) at Massey Hall. Concurrent with his 'adult' music career, in the mid seventies ...

| | Benon & Vamposs I Know CD (2008)
Knowledge Of Self CD music
$16.45 Benon & Vamposs are among Uganda's most celebrated hitmakers. With a masterful, rhythmic, beat-bopping blend of reggae, hip hop, dancehall and RnB in Luganda, Swahili and English, Benon Mugumbya a.k.a Benon and Elvis Kirya a.k.a Vamposs have blossomed into a formidable duo. Benon uses his hip-hop and RnB skills while Vamposs tempers their musical hits with his reggae and dancehall skills. The pair met in 1999 at Namasagali College, a Ugandan high school that is reknowned for developing talent. It was there that they discovered each other's talents, and decided to fuse their styles to form the famed musical team.It is no wonder that the pair chose to follow their musical careers. Elvis Kirya hails from a musical family. He is the brother of Maurice Kirya, one of Uganda's RnB sensations. He is also the brother of Ugandan hip-hop star Alex Kirya a.k.a Krayzie Native or Sabasaba. Benon Mugambya, on the other hand, was an active member of his high school entertainment groups who excelled musically. The two musicians, who are in their late 20's started out with songs like "Keep On Dreaming", "The Gal", Luganda song "Lwali Luli" (It Was Yesterday,) Swahili song "Wattu Wote" (Everybody) and "My Lady". "Keep on dreaming", their first single, was a collaboration they worked on right after high school in 2000. Both saved up some money and went to the studio to produce it. But in a country with a fledgling music industry where English songs are not easily marketable, the two would only find success later on when they used local languages like Luganda and Swahili. In 2005, Benon & Vamposs were nominated for Best RnB single in Uganda's PAM Awards, and in 2006 they were nominated for the Best Group Award in East Africa's Kisima Awards. Benon & Vamposs's big break came with the Luganda single "Nsazewo" (I have decided,) which flooded East African radio airwaves with such popularity that it finally gave them the ...
