| | Black Comedy Instigator CD Black Comedy Discography of CDs
The debut album from Norwegian metal outfit Black Comedy positively spills over with ferociously tight machine-gun rhythms, razor-sharp guitar riffage, retro synths, and alternately demonic and soaring vocals. "Prime Specimen," for example, chugs along on a chest-rattling groove before erupting into a wailing chorus that recalls Queensryche while keeping pace with the grinding sound of contemporary metal. INSTIGATOR is an impressive opening salvo from the Scandanavian rockers, proving how well they've refined their stylistic synthesis of hardcore, screamo, death metal, and classic metal.

Instigator
$10.39 Like Spinal Tap and several other acts before it, Steel Panther found success mocking the excesses of `80s hair metal while accurately re-creating the genre's musical style. The Los Angeles-based, wig n' spandex-clad quartet delivered a particularly low-brow take on the mock-metal genre with its debut album FEEL THE STEEL. With groan-inducing, intentionally politically incorrect song titles such as "Asian Hooker," "Fat Girl," and "Eatin' Ain't Cheatin'," the disc may not be the most clever entry into the comedy rock sweepstakes but it is one of the most authentic-sounding, perfectly re-creating the whammy bar squeals, David Lee Roth-esque ...

This wonderful and historically monumental recording pairs the master of jazz trumpet and jazz singing with "the father of the blues." In the early years of the 20th century, composer W.C. Handy authored many blues numbers, some of which have gone on not only to become enduring standards in the genre, but ...

| | Mudvayne New Game CD (2008) Limited Edition; Deluxe Edition
Instigator
$15.89 Illinois headbangers Mudvayne have weathered a number of trends since their formation in 1996, and they've returned with perhaps their most forceful release yet, THE NEW GAME. The makeup and costumes of previous incarnations long since disposed of, they're now back to basics, focusing their sound to a finely honed hard-rock battering ram. "The Hate in Me" is a classic, sinewy funk-metal rager, with an unstoppable riff and hammering rhythm section, and "We the People" assaults with choppy bursts of guitar and drums. Perhaps most impressive, however, is the complex "A New Game," which moves from thrash-like tempos to moody, blues-influenced passages fairly effortlessly.
After toning down the Slipknot/Mushroomhead theatrics for 2005's Lost and Found, Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray recorded an album with modern metal (almost) "supergroup" ...
| | Gordon Avenue Broken Pieces Make The Beautiful Things CD (2009)
Instigator
$11.39 Band Bio:Gordon Avenue is not your typical Rock Band. Their aggressive cutting-edge rock sounds familiar, but leaves the radio airplay cookie-cutter to the Pop/Rock bands. From the Acoustic Love Song to Face Melting Hard Rock, the fusion of diversity found within their songs is truly refreshing. With great stage presence Gordon Avenue has gained wide acclaim for their unforgettable high-energy shows as well as their infectious melodies that leave their fans singing their songs for days. The Northwestern Band started when lead singer Avery returned from a 4 month venture at the nation’s only artists’ colony exclusively for up-and-coming musicians; the Contemporary Music Center (CMC). All of the members in the band had been friends for years and done a lot of music together; they even played a small show for a friend’s graduation party in a backyard—but nothing too serious. Shortly after Avery’s return he asked the guys if they would be interested in playing a show in Portland, and if they liked then they could talk about continuing ...
