Blow album
$11.16 Originally released as a four-song bonus EP with the U.K. edition of Armed Forces, then excerpted with an additional six songs on Rhino's double-disc expansion of said album in 2002, Live at Hollywood High received a full-blown reissue in 2010, almost 32 years after the June 4, 1978 concert from Elvis Costello & the Attractions. As the second installment of the Costello Show archival series, Live at Hollywood High isn't as legendary as Live at the El Mocambo, which had the benefit of once being one of Elvis Costello's rarest records, but it's a better show, or at least a better indication of the Attractions at their absolute peak. Apart from the dramatic opening reading of "Accidents Will Happen," featuring only Elvis and pianist Steve Nieve, every performance here is significantly revved up from the album versions, a change evident on all the My Aim ...

| | Spoon Transference CD (2010)
Blow album
$12.78 Given Spoon's reputation for consistency, it's not a surprise that Transference is good. However, it manages to be good in surprising ways. This time, the band's quest to get to the heart of their songs led them to take matters into their own hands and produce this album themselves -- a first, which seems somewhat remarkable, considering the band's tight control over their sound. The single "Got Nuffin" preceded Transference by six months, and its stripped-down rock was the first hint that this album might not continue Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga's meticulous production and pop songcraft. As marvelous as the precision of that album was, the rough edges here are refreshing. Transference's title may refer to subconscious emotional shifts, but these are some of the most direct and uncompromising songs Spoon has written. They have all the gritty promise of demos
(in fact, many of these songs are basically demos), with a roomy sound that just underlines their urgency. Compared to Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and Gimme Fiction's polish, the Who-esque "Trouble Comes Running" might as well have been recorded on a four-track, while "Goodnight Laura"'s intimacy and imperfections make it a braver and more vulnerable lullaby. Any veneers in Britt Daniel's writing have ...
| | Editors In This Light And On This Evening CD (2009)
Blow CD music
$9.58 After two albums, England's premier post-punk revivalists Editors were at a crossroads. Their debut was a commanding snapshot of a young band whose emotional urgency outweighed its slavish devotion to the sounds of late-'70s/early-'80s Manchester -- there was no getting around singer Tom Smith's similarity to Ian Curtis -- but the power and passion of the songs trumped any "British Interpol" accusations. The follow-up found the band falling victim to the dread sophomore jinx, turning out a lackluster rehash of the same ideas as the debut. Ironically, it sold better than the first. Whether or not the band recognized they had come to a musical dead-end despite their booming sales, they were apparently wise enough to know it was time for a change in direction, and ...

| | Best Of Major Lance CD (2000) (Import) United Kingdom
Blow songs
$17.29 Even amid such illustrious company as Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler, Mississippi-born Major Lance was one of the most distinctive stylists on the 1960s Chicago soul scene. Like the Impressions, he sported a sound that mixed Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, and '50s doo-wop into a glorious, hit-bound stew. Impressions leader Curtis Mayfield himself wrote most of the tunes found here, but none is more resonant than the percolating "The Monkey Time," a dance ...

| | Yerubilee CD (2008)
Blow album
$9.35 Shalom, everyone! To post your CD review on this page, just scroll past the bio and you will see a link to where you can post your comment. Thanks :)BIO:Yerubilee eases onto the Praise & Worship scene with a fresh look & sound: Roots reggae with 10-string Davidic harp, varied vocalists, live horns & string sections.Yerubilee is a praise & worship band from Jerusalem with a new sound and a vision for lifting up the name of Yeshua (Jesus) all around the world. Yerubilee is connected to the 24/7/365 worship movement and could be described as Messianic Hebraic Christian praise and worship with heartfelt singing, Davidic harp, and pop orchestra supported by island/reggae rhythms. The band's name "Yerubilee" (pronounced "yah-ROO-beh-lee") combines "Yerushalayim" (Hebrew for Jerusalem) with "Jubilee" to evoke scenes of celebration and jubilation as the Holy City prepares for the Messiah's soon return in the clouds of heaven. Yerubilee powers thru popular covers such as "We Want to See Jesus Lifted High,"(by Doug Horley), "Roni, Roni, Bat Zion" (David Loden) and "Call on Jesus," (Nicole C. Mullen) along with choice originals "By Your Wounds," "Strong and Mighty" and "Wait on the LORD." With such great songs set to live reggae, one drop, and rocksteady riddims, Yerubilee stands to simultaneously become the UB40 of Messianic and Contemporary Christian Music. Yerubilee's instrumentation combines traditional bass-drums-guitar-keyboards with jazzy horns, a super-sweet string section, and electric Davidic harp whose design is based upon findings from archeological digs. A takeoff on "Harp and Bowl," this could be called "Harp and Bass for the Highest Praise."Please also check out the websites at "Yerubilee" and "Jerusalem Tabernacle of David" (JTOD), Yerubilee's host ministry/label. A portion of the CD sales proceeds go to support worshipers and intercessors praying for peace in Jerusalem. Yerubilee. Messianic Roots Reggae from Jerusalem. Tracklist:Wait on the LORD: With glistening harp and smooth vocals, this Teddy Chadwick original takes its lyrics from Psalm 27 with strong exhortation to be of good courage in YAH. He Brought Us Out: More encouragement for the faint of heart. No worries about no giants, when you're on the LORD's side. We Want to See Jesus Lifted High: I bet you never heard this popular tune done Hebraic reggae style before. Let's lift up Yeshua!By Your Wounds: Original song, with words from Isaiah 53: there's such a healing power in this song!Roni Roni Bat Zion: The popular Israeli praise song from Zephaniah 3:14-17 which means "Rejoice daughter of Zion, for the LORD has taken your punishment." Flows directly into...It Is Good: Another insanely popular tune, by Paul Wilbur. Based on "The Shabbat Psalm," Psalm 92. Check out the horns and the string section. Strong and Mighty: Psalm 24 in Hebrew and English, by Teddy Chadwick. Features prominent 10-string harp with tremelo. With ...
