'Rough Times Ahead' will be a unique album not because Suck Stuff is from Korea and not because the band is made of ¾ Koreans and ¼ American it is because they have packed this album with their influences of punk rock, rockabilly, country and rock and roll while paying homage to the forefathers of punk and rock and roll. One listen and fans of The Clash, US Bombs, Steve Earle, Social Distortion and ACDC will find something that they will like. Bands like Suck Stuff's is a rare breed nowadays that only those who truly know and love the early days of punk rock and rock and roll will be capable of doing such kind of music. They have been rocking for already six years and their high caliber twin guitar work, alternate vocal deliveries that harmonizes and screams in the right place, driving bass lines and aggressive drum works have made them one of the front runners of the Korean punk scene. In this times that emo have infected the scene and it taught the kids that being sad is a cool thing to do, Suck Stuff will teach them on how to have fun and how to appreciate good music once more. No gimmicks, no frills just pure punk rock and loads of fun.

Toby Keith American Ride CD  (2009)

Rough Times Ahead album
CD $13.09  3.5 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
With most contemporary country artists, you could guarantee that a song called "American Ride" would be a slice of jingoism, but Toby Keith isn't like most country singers. His "American Ride" casts a cynical eye at desperate housewives and wannabe pop stars, not celebrating down-home values but wondering where we're all headed on this American Ride at the end of the 2000s, a sentiment not all that far removed from some of Keith's previous social commentary, which makes it a mild surprise that it is the only song here that doesn't come from his own pen. As superb and striking as it is, it's not necessarily a good keystone for the rest of the record, which does have a few tougher numbers that pick up on the lean, mean vibe of 2008's THAT DON'T MAKE ME A BAD GUY -- "Every ...

It's hard to not be impressed by the sheer sonic onslaught that is otherwise known as Nile. Except to the most hardened death metal fanatic, the genre has a way of sounding the same after a while, but Nile is one of the few exceptions -- able to put their own ...

Something Old Something New: Introducing Sacha Boutros
Red Holloway Something Old Something New: Introducing Sacha Boutros CD  (2008)

Rough Times Ahead album
CD $22.79
James W "Red" Holloway was born in Helena, Arkansas on May 31, 1927 to a mother who played piano and a father who played violin. At the age of five, he and his mother moved to Chicago, where he graduated from DuSable High School and attended the Conservatory of Music.

During grade school, Red played banjo and harmonica in school bands. His first musical instrument, a tenor sax, was given to him by his stepfather when he was twelve years old. During high school, he was in the DuSable big band, where he sat next to fellow classmate and reedman Johnny Griffin. At sixteen and while still in school, he was hired for his first professional engagement by bassist Gene Wright, who later went on to become a member of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Red played with Wright's Big Band for three years at the Parkway Ballroom. When Red was nineteen, he joined the Army, where he became bandmaster for the U.S. Fifth Army Band.

After completing his military service, Red returned to Chicago and played with Yusef Lateef and Dexter Gordon, among others. In 1948 he was asked by blues vocalist Roosevelt Sykes to join Sykes' U.S. Road Tour. During this time, other bluesmen heard him and subsequently hired him, including Nat "Lotsa Poppa" Towles, Willie Dixon, Junior Parker, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Lloyd Price, John Mayall, and B.B. King. Because of these associations, Red became typecast, perhaps unfairly, as primarily a blues player.

During the Fifties, Red continued playing in the Chicago area with such notables as Billie Holiday, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Ben Webster, Jimmy Rushing, Arthur Prysock, Dakota Station, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Wardell Gray, Sonny Rollins, Red Rodney, Lester Young, ...

'One of the best debut albums from Germany ever', Rock Hard Magazin wrote about NWOGHM, the first CD of the German metal band VIRON. After just one demo-ep the CD was released by a small Greek metal label and received very good reviews in all metal related magazines. Even the title appeared to be a bit polarizing, the CD surprisingly does sounded more like classic US Metal than like Teutonic Metal which often tends to be more 'happy' sounding. After the release VIRON played on several festivals including Headbangers Open Air and Swordbrothers Festival and did small tours and single shows with bands like Ruffians, Majesty, Sabaton or Morgana Lefay. And again they got tons of great reviews in the press, this time for being a great live band. In 2007 VIRON added a song to the Manilla Road tribute compilation 'The Riddle Masters'. This positive development in such a short period of time showed that their previous label wasn't able to handle VIRON in a necessary and needful way. So they agreed to let VIRON go. After receiving several offers, they signed with Metal Heaven in Summer 2007. NWOGHM included all the songs the band had written until the day of entering the studio. What you hear on the CD is a reproduction of what the band sounded ...
Music Heard Far Off
Child Readers Music Heard Far Off CD  (2008)

Rough Times Ahead songs
CD $12.39
The fourth album by the Child Readers finds the duo of Loren Chasse and Jason Honea presenting shorter songs in comparison to some of their past efforts, which often could break the ten-minute mark. Call it going "pop," in their own dreamily tweaked way, finding the spots where lo-fi as a continuing aesthetic and psychedelic experimentation meet and mesh. Beginning with the fuzz and toy piano of "Infant Wing," Chasse and Honea work on creating a mostly successful exploration of that approach, a listen that's not monumental but is not trying to be. Sometimes all it ...
