Purchase Action CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Jason Becker Perpetual Burn CD (1988)
Action album
$14.55 Cacophony guitarist Jason Becker's all-instrumental solo album is a winner. On Perpetual Burn, Becker gets to stretch out and really show his talents, whereas in Cacophony, with fellow virtuoso Marty Friedman sharing the spotlight, some of the subtleties of Becker's style are lost amid the cluttered speed metal maelstrom. Floating in on a bed of ethereal keyboards, Becker's guitar opens the album with a lyrical solo on the stately "Altitudes." His compositional skills allow the piece to build naturally and make it a coherent, satisfying statement ...
| | Skid Row Slave To The Grind CD (1991)
Action CD music
$11.65 Skid Row took the strategically contrived, super-polished sonics of their self-titled debut and dirtied things up for the more fitting, grittier direction of their second full-length album, 1991's SLAVE TO THE GRIND. SLAVE has the historical distinction of being the first metal album to debut at #1 ...
| | Steelheart CD (1991)
Action music CDs
$6.49 Possessing metal pipes like few before him, leonine Steelheart yelper Michael Matijevic scarred the airwaves forever when he hammered the simply unmatchable chorus of the hairball "I'll Never Let You Go": ludicrous and sublime, akin to Whitney Houston hitting the hot spot in "I Will Always Love You." The opening strands of "Everybody Loves Eileen" bring Ratt out of the cellar before the cut curls into a pop n' fresh roller coaster ride. The remainders on this ridiculous dish are also overlong examples of excess but not as memorable, paying homage to Whitesnake and other flailing stylistic ventures. "I'll Never Let You Go" is available on some quality collections and no aficionado of poodle pomp should let that song go, otherwise leave Steelheart in peace with the music it helped lay to rest. ~ Doug Stone
Possessing metal pipes like few before him, the leonine Steelheart yelper Michael Matijevic scarred the airwaves forever when he hammered the simply unmatchable chorus of the hairball "I'll Never Let You Go." Ludicrous and sublime, the sound is roughly akin to Whitney Houston hitting the hot spot in "I Will Always Love You." | | Loudness Thunder In The East CD (1985)
Action album
$10.65 Loudness was a Japanese hard rock quartet that had numerous hit albums in the 80's and early 90's. Thunder In The East reached number 74 on the Billboard charts in 1985. Wounded Bird. 2003.
With 1985's Thunder in the East, Loudness were faced with the daunting challenge of conquering heavy metal fans outside their homeland of Japan for the first time. Knowing that their early sound might prove a tad too heavy and complex for American audiences, the foursome rose to the occasion by dispensing their most melodic compositions ever. Yet, except for a few obvious examples, like "We Could Be Together," first single "Crazy Nights," and the power ballad "Never Change Your Mind," the band doesn't seem at all self-conscious about this transition. A few all-out headbangers like "Get Away" and "Clockwork Toy" are hammered out for good measure, but it's excellent tracks like "Heavy Chains," "The Lines Are Down," and "No Way Out" which obtain the best results by bridging the gap between ...

Action music CDs
$11.59 All songs written or co-written by Ted Ottaviano except "Sound and Vision" (David Bowie), "Woyaya" (R.M. Bailey/Teddy Osei/Mac Tonto/W. Richardson/Sol Amarfio/Laughty Amao) and "Chatterbox (Pt. 1)" (Jade Lee). Contains a sample from "Aquarius" (as performed by The 5th Dimension).
The fifth album by the synth quintet Book of Love kicks off with the hypnotic, mostly instrumental "Sunday Morning A.M.," featuring Susan Ottaviano breathily repeating the word "always." It's followed by the bittersweet "Happily Ever After," which includes a cool sample of the Fifth Dimension's "Aquarius." The group injects David Bowie's "Sound and Vision" with perk (and more than a few layers of keyboard noodlings and a throbbing dance beat). "Hunny Hunny" is as sweet as its name implies and "Trouble in a Bubble" has a playful bounce. The simple "Salve My Soul" has a cool, sensual feel (spoiled by a chaotic midsection) and "Woyaya" just doesn't work. While there are some fun moments on Lovebubble (the sprightly pop of "Flower in My Hand"), most fans will find Book of Love's earlier work much more engaging and essential. ~ Tom Demalon
