| | Marie Digby Unfold CD Marie Digby Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Marie Digby's wistful, folky cover of Rihanna's "Umbrella" may have gained her some notice, but it's far from the only trick up her sleeve. On UNFOLD, Digby's debut, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter proves herself capable of top-shelf original material that will draw comparisons to contemporaries like Kate Voegele and Missy Higgins. Digby's introspective songs have a confessional bent, and their gentle guitar and piano-driven melodies, which borrow from folk and mainstream pop-rock, will endear themselves to fans of both genres. "Say It Again," "Unfold," and "Girlfriend" are among the highlights. Unfold Music Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) Not quite what I expected After hearing the 2 songs Umbrella and Spell, I had to buy this album. Unfortunately, with the exception of Fool, Beauty In Walking Away, and Unfold itself, I would describe the rest of this CD as Teenie Pop, as in, it caters to teenage girls. If you like Teenie Pop then this shouldn't be a problem. I, on the other hand, bought this thinking it would be more of an adult album. Much of this material is like "Mandy Moore Starts High School". Maybe on her next album the 20-something will graduate and become the adult troubadour for which I mistook her (okay, that was harsh). But then again, maybe this material will creep its way in... nnaaauugh!! She does show alot of promise as a singer/songwriter/guitarist/pianist though. I give Spell and Umbrella 5 stars. Fool, Unfold, and Beauty In Walking Away 4-4.5 stars. 3 stars overall, only because I'm not a teenager OR a girl, otherwise I'd just be GIDDY over giving it 5 stars! Unfold album
$6.79 Another in a series of superb wandering groove albums from the premier sweet soul singer. He took the standard three-minute pop soul song and expanded the format. It is Gaye that is responsible for today's smooching urban R&B; he was for much of his career many years ahead of the game. This has been described as his "oral sex" album, not that the others were not; this has the erotic edge. Built around the title track, the album is a theme album and as such should be played as a whole. There are no "Too Busy Thinking Bout My Baby's" on this; it is a much more challenging but satisfying work.

| | Marvin Gaye Let's Get It On CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Unfold CD music
$6.79 This 2-CD deluxe edition of LET'S GET IT ON features various session recordings leading up to or associated with the landmark 1973 release, which is also included in its original form.
Principally recorded between 1970 and 1973. LET'S GET IT ON originally released on Tamla (329). Includes liner notes by Ed Townsend, David Ritz, Ben Edmonds and Harry Weinger.
Relishing the artistic freedom afforded by the success of WHAT'S GOING ON, Marvin Gaye recorded this sultry paean to sex. Where its predecessor relied on complex arrangements, the straightforward sound of LET'S GET IT ON focused attention on its tight rhythms, strong melodies, and Gaye's expressive, nuanced singing. For sheer sensual come-on, it's hard to beat the title track, one of the finest celebrations of the joys of human chemistry ever recorded. But the self-explanatory ...
| | Al Stewart Greatest Hits CD (2004)
Unfold music CDs
$7.99 Over the years, there have been plenty of Al Stewart collections, most featuring the same five or six songs, giving the impression that he's an easy artist to compile. That, however, isn't quite the case. Most of these collections are haphazardly assembled, focusing either on his early elaborate historical story songs or his lush productions of the late '70s and early '80s, choosing songs that were not necessarily hits and not necessarily good showcases for his idiosyncratic gifts. Despite its nondescript (and misleading) title and its cover art, which bewilderingly mimics the cover of Year of the Cat, Rhino's 2004 collection Greatest Hits is the first to truly to capture Stewart at his best, from his baroque British folk-rock in the late '60s to his soft rock hits a decade later. While all his American hits are here, this is more of a "best of" than a hits compilation, since it doesn't follow the ...

Nickelodeon & ParentsConnect"The sweet, strong vocals, silly skits, and gentle morals will appeal to kids AND parents." -Parenting Magazine"The husband-and-wife team of Princess Katie and Racer Steve deliver a sparkling album that effortlessly lives up to it's title, "Songs for the Coolest Kids". Alternative rock-loving parents will dig how much Katie sounds like Natalie Merchant (only much more chipper), and the high-spirited high jinks of Racer Steve. - Disney's FamilyFun Magazine "Who wouldn't want to see a concert by a band whose CD is called, "Songs for the Coolest Kids"? - The New York Times“Songs for the Coolest Kids turned out to be an exciting new find for me. The alternapop-rock sound will hook you right away. Backed by a tight rhythm section, the small but mighty quartet pumps out 11 songs that are full of witty lyrics about respect, honesty, managing feelings, and dealing with bullies. But just because the messages are positive (and parent-approved) doesn’t mean they’re preachy or patronizing.“ – Cool Mom Picks"The duo's been a sudden success. | | David Gates Never Let Her Go CD (1975)
Unfold songs
$9.69 No musicians are credited except for the associate producer title given to keyboard player Larry Knechtel and retaining Bread photographer, Frank Bez, as well as engineer Bruce Morgan, who played an important part in David Gates' First from 1973 (and who would engineer Bread's 1977 comeback, Lost Without Your Love ). The lead singer of the '70s very recognizable soft rock hit machine delivers his second solo disc, part of something a retailer once referred to as "breadcrumbs," the result of Bread's breakup. Certainly the solo recordings by James Griffin, Larry Knechtel, and Gates were nowhere as entertaining as the full band, but each time, that comes down to the material. This album sounds so much like another Bread album that there is no doubt who the main force was. Where First worked better the more Gates got away from the trademark music, his second solo album embraces the Bread formula wholeheartedly, "Playin' on My Guitar" could have been the B-side of any of the group's singles. "Greener Days" is up-tempo, not as hard as "Let Your Love Go," but singsongy and with hit potential. Emulating sentiment and style from George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album on "Greener Days," even lifting little musical nuances of Harrison's "Hear Me Lord," it's just too bad Gates didn't take more from the Beatles guitarist's landmark disc. The reflective/poignant line "...our greener days...turned into grey" certainly is another way of saying "all things must pass." "Strangers," meanwhile, takes much from Neil Young's "Cowgirl in the Sand," much, but again, not nearly enough. The title track is classic Bread, actually going Top 30 in February of 1975, but it didn't get the major airplay of his hit from the Neil Simon movie Goodbye Girl three years later, nor the staying power of the final hit with Bread, "Lost Without Your Love." This lament has more in common with "Goodbye Girl," but not enough for a full loaf. The album is as consistent as the use of that word in "Part Time Love," the voice, the pen, the production of the real driving ...
