| Van Halen is born!!! With this debute album Eddie Van Halen right off the bat put him self up ther as one of the greatest guirists ever with big names like Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi, Richie Blackmore, Eric Clapton and so on. Yes, he is the man. If you like rock music and dont own this you need to get it now. By ADG (Martinez, CA, USA) This review is for a different format. |

| eddie killed disco jeff beck said, at a time when guitar was dying, eddie sent more kids running to pick a guitar than anyone since jimi hendrix.thats high praise from one of the greatest guitarist there is. i'll tell ya, when kids heard eruption. that did. it was d-con for disco.eddie made disco do the dying cockroach postion. i just seen the revamped van halen and eddie has added a twist i haven't seen anyone doing concerning tapping. and harvey mandel done some tapping on shangrenade. but no one has taken it to the extreme at that point in time as eddie. big bad bill has elements of a django rheinhartd song. they are from holland so i bet eddies dad knew who django was. and it's fans like me who recognize this tune as a tribute to django clarinet solo and all. this debut cd was the beginning of the end for disco.mike hernandez chicago,,USMC By mmichaellollypop (chicago) This review is for a different format. |
| Van Halen Ok, I a Guitar fanatic and have been for over 30 years. Eddie is of course one of the greatest, and rightfully so. His mix of Rock, Metal, Pop and Funk is flat out perfection. I would like to add that Eddie had some predecesors when it came to fret tapping. If anyone remebers Sweet (Fox on the Run, Ballroom Blitz, Little Willt etc.) listen carefully to the guitar player (Andy Scott), the similarities of playing (not tone) are amazing, and yes he was Tapping before Eddie, just listen to the Desolation Boulevard album, it's in there, although I don't remember the track. As for Eddie and the boyz........bring back DLR!!!! Probably a pipe dream but, if they ever want to recapture the magic it has to be DLR. Sammy was great! DLR just fits!
