Oldie Hits album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. ...

| | Rana Ross Finally CD (2009)
Oldie Hits songs
$16.45 Rana Ross was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 30, 1961. She began playing music at the age of four. Starting on acoustic classical guitar, Rana slowly graduated to lower and lower instruments, from viola in grade school to cello in junior high, to 4-string bass, 5-string bass and ultimately 6-string. She studied at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, as well as the Musicians Institute and the defunct Dick Grove School of Music, both in Los Angeles. Growing up in a single parent home, she credited her Mom with exposing her to artists like Earth, Wind and Fire, Stanley Clarke, The Brothers Johnson, Sly and the Family Stone and others. Being intrigued with the L.A. vibe and ready to move away from home, she took a giant step and headed for the left coast in 1987. "I came out here with one bass and one suitcase and knew only one person," Rana recalled. "I moved out here knowing that I would have no excuse to not make it because I'd be in Los Angeles and I'd have to make it."As Rana stated, "I learned so much, you know, when you're young, you meet a lot of people, I got to hang with Jeff Berlin, he taught me a whole bunch of stuff, and Alexis Sklarevski, he's a great player, I learned a lot of my slap style through Alexis. And (Gary) Willis was one of my teachers too, he's a dear friend, and I took private lessons from him as well. I copped some of his 3-finger technique and he made some of his 'ramps' for me." Rana had played with the 1980s group 'Phantom Blue' as their bassist in 1994 when Kim Nielsen, the original bassist, left the group. She joined them shortly after the release of their second album, "Built To Perform". She also played with the group 'Tangerine' from 1997 to 1998, and was a touring member of the all-girl group, 'Vixen' in 1997. Rana then went on to play with Live Nude Girls.Rana played bass and sang backup vocals for the hard rock metal group 'Sinboy. ' ...
