Armageddon Soundtrack
$14.95 Based on Gregory Maguire's novel of the same name, the Broadway musical WICKED creates a history for the two witches from L. Frank Baum's OZ books. Through composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz's emotive songs, the show reveals the unlikely friendship between Elphaba (Idina Menzel), who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch, and Glinda (Kristin ...

Armageddon Soundtrack
$12.15 Like Saw 2, Saw 3, and Saw IV (the soundtracks for Saw 1 and Saw V were largely orchestral) Saw VI mines the increasingly dense modern rock/alternative/death metal scenes for its bloody goods. It's a fitting marriage, as hard rock and heavy metal are the sonic suitors to horror and torture porn films, and video games. Hatebreed ("In Ashes They Shall Reap"), Converge ("Dark Horse"), My My Misfire ("The Sinatra"), and Kittie ("Cut Throat") provide the most ferocious moments this time around. ...

Armageddon Soundtrack
$11.49 Although nominally an alt country act, the Only Children's second album tends to keep their twangier elements in reserve while playing up the pop songcraft of singer/songwriter Josh Berwanger. Oddly, the results sound less like the children of Uncle Tupelo who helped found the alt country scene, and slightly more like an earlier brand of roots rocker, although thankfully devoid of the truly rotten, dated production that hampers their albums for modern listeners. The closest point of comparison for this Lawrence, KS quintet lies in the explosion of Americana or cowpunk bands that appeared ...
| | Moving Soundtracks CD (2008) (Import) Original Soundtrack; United Kingdom
Armageddon Soundtrack
$16.09 The tangled history of this compilation, as explained briefly in the liner notes to the 2008 reissue, lies in a plan by the Crepescule label in the early '80s to have a collection of tracks by its artists and kindred spirits covering a variety of songs written for and/or made famous through their movie appearances, with Blaine Reininger serving as overall producer. The result would have been a cross between a tribute album and something like This Mortal Coil, perhaps, but the version that finally surfaced in 1991 was a mix of tracks from a variety of sessions and artists. The 2008 reissue readjusts this slightly, with the original contributions (minus cuts by Cabaret Voltaire and Ennio Morricone) complemented by other contemporaneous covers, resulting in a enjoyable, often breezily sweet listen that both celebrates and in other ways completely undercuts or reworks the original takes. One example of the latter comes from the Pale Fountains, who turn the John Barry-written Louis Armstrong ...
