$14.59 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Few jazz pianists could ever hope to rival the technical mastery of Art Tatum. From the 1930s on through the `50s, Tatum's dazzling facility made it seem as if two pianists were playing at once. Though he often performed solo, his virtuosity allowed him to make the transition ...
| | Roy Hargrove Emergence CD (2009)
Bona Makes You Sweat album
$13.99 Trumpeter Roy Hargrove has been in some exotic musical environments in the past -- from his various quintets, quartets, his Afro-Cuban outfit Crisol, and his funk band the RH Factor, he's pretty much done it all. And while he's played in various big bands before, he's never led his own until now. Emergence on the Groovin' High imprint features a 19-member big band, playing a set of 11 standards and originals by Hargrove and bandmembers as well as a track written for the leader by none other than pianist Chucho Valdés -- who doesn't appear here. The roots for this project go all the way back to 1995 when Hargrove formed a big band to play the New York Jazz Festival. The group went through many metamorphoses when he played a series of club and festival gigs over the intervening years. The set begins with "Velera," a tune written and arranged by Hargrove. It's a ballad in modal style with extended harmonies and a lovely textural palette. The composer employs restraint to bring forth his gorgeous melody. It's followed by "Ms. Garvey, Ms. Garvey," written and arranged by baritone saxophonist Jason Marshall. It quotes liberally from "Wade in the Water" and "Hit the Road Jack," but is a stomping, raucous blues in its own right with the wide chromatic and harmonic range of the brass section on full display, and contains a smoking solo break by Hargrove. Some of the standards that really shine are an unusually restrained and utterly elegant ...

Bona Makes You Sweat album
$11.99 South Texas punk trio the Put Downs prefer the stripped-down, ultra-basic sound of early California hardcore to any of punk's other permutations. Their second album consists of 14 short and speedy three-chord thrashers, leavened with just enough melodic interest to keep from scaring off the pop-punk kids and the occasional hint of vintage early rock and roots influences. Social Distortion ...

Bona Makes You Sweat CD music
$11.09 What motivated me to make a CD? So Dan. Why don’t you make a CD?That was Karen suggesting that after showing me the CD labelshe had created with some of my titles on it .That was how this project came about really.I suppose there is a time for things, and it was time for this tohappen. My overwhelming sense is one of gratitude. For wherever these melodies came from, and for the gifts ofthese musicians and the great production of John GilbertGreenburg .These songs are my life. They are a mix of sound, and style that arevery easy to listen to. If you want to have it in the backgroundfor the dinner party or on the stereo going for a drive, you won't be disappointed.padanmcmillan@blogspot.comThe earliest songs are from the early seventiesI trust that those of you who do listen will find something on my CDthat moves you.Cheers,DanDan McMillan’s CDRelease Sold OutDan McMillan’s CD launch at the ItalianCanadian Hall was a sold out event. It was over 20 years in the making andeveryone was very pleased that this localtalented musician made it.McMillan’s family was present: hisbrother Marty and wife Vickie sisterLinda and husband Kenn Whiteman, along with Laurie and Judy. His girlfriend Karen Osberg made sure to videothe whole event and his nieces Marla,Leah, Jana, Michelle, Jacklyn and Tracyassisted in the sale of the CD’s. Also helpingwere Sandy Bouleau, Gordie Rhodesand Bill Hardisty.McMillan plays in the band Nite Shiftand they also added their support andplayed the second set of music. The CD has all of McMillan’s originalsongs and was recorded by John Gilbertwho is also a musician and added his talentto the project.Clive Lauzon created the graphics forthe CD and the following musicianscontributed their talent: Rebecca Olsen,Guido, Andrew Schmidt, Chelsea Olsen,Mike Mallon, John Dryden and ErikNystrom.Marty did the intro for McMillan andsaid the only thing missing was theirparents Norman and Sylvia.McMillan did dedicate this CD to hisparents and has their names on it.Part proceeds of the sale of the CD wentto Fir Park Village for the new tubs andat the end of the evening there was $300raised.Angie Blake of the Fir Park/Echo VillageFoundation was very pleased thatMcMillan had thought of them for hisdonation and thanked him.McMillan then spoke about his songsand his regret that his parents couldn’tbe there for this release but felt they mustbe there in spirit.McMillan and his musicians then playedeach of the releases on the CD live. The CD contains wonderful tunes thathave a very relaxing and calming effecton an individual. The musicians havemade it a full-bodied experience and onethat I’m sure everyone would enjoy.Personally, it was great to be able toactually hear the words and find thatthere wasn’t any off-colour language inthem. The instrumental tune, Karen’sSurprise, is a lovely melody that bares noresemblance to any other tune that I’veever heard before.McMillan remembers his first excitementabout music being in his parent’scar with Elvis singing “Hound Dog” onthe radio. He was jumping up and downon the back seat in time to the music andalso singing at the top of his lungs.“My mom had a natural voice for singingand even though she didn’t sing inpublic I remember her singing aroundour home.
