Avatar consists of myself, James Kennedy on bass guitar and guitar and Tony O'Flaherty on sax, flute and keys. I write the tunes and Tony records them. Production and arranging are shared. Extra musicians are added to the mix as required. The studio is a great enviornment for us as we have established a solid working relationship which is focused and relaxed. Stylistically the music is a fusion of 70's Dub Reggae and Jazz. Further inspiration comes from Kerry's incredible landscape and years of 'sitting quietly'. These factors combine to give our music its own very unique sound. Our debut album has recieved excellent reviews most notably in the likes of number one Bass Guitar Magazine and cudos from legendary producer/engineer Del Palmer (Kate Bush etc.). The music has been described as both relaxing and uplifting and this we feel perfectly sums up what we are all about. Currently we are in the studio working on our second album. I RECORDED THREE RECORDS FOR THE SHRAPNEL LABEL GROUP AND THEN MOVED TO LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA. IT WAS THEN THAT I WAS INVITED TO JOIN THE MULTI PLATINUM GLAM METAL BAND KNOWN AS POISON. I RECORDED ONE CD WITH THE BAND AND DID A WORLD TOUR IN SUPPORT OF THE CD. MY SONG STAND REACHED #4 ON MTV’S MOST WANTED AND WAS IN THE TOP 20 IN BILLBOARD MAGAZINE. OUR RECORD EVENTUALLY REACHED THE PLATINUM SALES STATUS.AFTER FINISHING MY OBLIGATIONS WITH THE GROUP I WENT BACK TOBEING A SOLO ARTIST AND RELEASED SEVERAL RECORDS ON VARIOUS LABELSINCLUDING SHRAPNEL, GEFFEN, AND JVC UNTIL I WAS INVITED BY JAZZ LEGEND STANLEY CLARKE TO FORM THE BAND VERTU. JOHNSON Everything this prolific musician and spoken word artist creates is to promote surviving, overcoming and eventually thriving after extreme personal adversity such as sexual abuse.The 33-year old Winnipeg woman has also put her entertainment endeavours into enterprise. On September.12, 2009 she will launch In The Closet Productions. Her new organization’s mandate is overcoming evil with good by being a voice for the voiceless using various forms of art. “We produce socially and spiritually conscious entertainment products. We believe in helping others so our bottom line is to generate both social and financial returns by using our products to impact positive social change on pressing social challenges,” says Ingrid.To advocate for social change, Ingrid plans to unveil a number of items from her closet in the coming months, but two are set for immediate launch in September - the first - a book: Wounded Souls. The book consists of socially conscious poems and bold song lyrics. Wounded Souls is the follow-up to the 2005 bestselling poetry collection, Little Black Butterfly in Iridescent Sunlight.
