(3 Customer Reviews)
Stalwart Hermosa Beach positive-punks Pennywise have been bashing out their brand of melodic punk rock for 20 years, and they show no signs of stopping. REASON TO BELIEVE, their ninth LP and the first one they're offering up for free (in a joint venture with MySpace), is another blast of SoCal strength. It's no surprise that Pennywise built a huge fan base from their songs' appearances in skate and snowboard videos in the early 90s. They remain wizards at building a sense of momentum and velocity, and singer Jim Lindberg rides the tuneful, ocean-sprayed riffs like a pro surfer. "Faith and Hope" and "It's Not Enough to Believe" are classic Pennywise, with infectious, hummable melodies and a driving punk engine, but they stretch out elsewhere, as on the shifting rhythms of "Confusion" and slower tempos of "The Western World." Pennywise refuse to quit, and probably couldn't if they wanted to.
This DVD/CD set includes the 9th studio album by the punk heroes. The music of the album, charged by the political and economic realities of our time, also highlights the personal spiritual and emotional issues of the band members. This set takes fans to new territory along a trail that the band has blazed over the span of their nearly 20 year long career. This title carries a parental advisory.

NO END IN SIGHT Pennywise continues to put out solid records time and time again. I found this one to be a lot better than their previous 2 records "The Fuse" & "From the Ashes". I have been a Pennyiwse fan from over 10 years now and I was scared that this release was going to be no better than "The Fuse", but one first listen, it was much better! Pennywise Rules! | | Rod Stewart Never A Dull Moment CD (1972) Gold
Reason To Believe music CDs
$19.10 NEVER A DULL MOMENT picks up where EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY left off. Here we have more raucous rock & roll with healthy dollops of soul and twang thrown in for good measure. Always looking for a good songwriter to cover, Stewart's honorees here include Jimi Hendrix ("Angel"), Dylan ("Mama You Been On My Mind"), and Rod's personal hero, Sam Cooke ("Twistin' The Night Away"). Sidling up nicely next to these heartfelt interpretations are some of Stewart's finest original songs. Teaming with spiritual brother Ron Wood, Stewart offers up the cheeky "Italian Girls" and "True Blue," a track that goes along at a mid-tempo ...

| | Tom Waits Glitter And Doom Live CDs (2009) Digipak
Reason To Believe album
$13.84 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced the set himself, intending to make them sound like a single show. The material leans, understandably, on his recordings with the Anti label. There are stellar performances here, such as "Get Behind the Mule" from The Mule ...

| | Paul Flaherty Bridge Out CD (2008)
Reason To Believe CD music
$12.15 Nick Cain starts his liner notes to Bridge Out! with the words: "Don't call it a comeback." Well, I'm sorry, but that's just what it is -- and twice over. Not only is this a comeback for the Flaherty/Colbourne duo, after a ten-year hiatus, but this album also marks Randy Colbourne's return to the drum kit, after exploring the clarinet for a decade. In the meantime, Flaherty has experienced a significant increase in profile, mostly thanks to another sax/drums alliance, this one with Chris Corsano. Bridge Out! was recorded in Colbourne's home studio in a one-day session. It is a generous and intense 70+minute platter. Flaherty is in fine shape, exploring the full range of his expressive palette, from lovable instant melodies to angst-driven grunts. The surprise here is Colbourne, in better shape than ever, rolling over the drum kit at light speed -- his stint as a clarinetist has added a jazz-like melodicism to his playing reminiscent of Rashied Ali. The album has been assembled as two separate sets (and you might actually want to take a 20-minute break at mid-point). The first set's highlight is "Scorched Onslaught," actually not as all-out as its title may imply, and the short episode of cymbal bowing entitled "Ice Spike." The 17-minute "Marauding Toxic Fungus" features some very strong moments, but also some surprisingly weak interplay in some places. The second ...
