Arguably the finest melodic thrash band to break out of Phoenix, Flotsam & Jetsam took a stylistic detour with 1990's WHEN THE STORM COMES DOWN. Replacing Jason Newsted (snatched up by Metallica), new bassist and lyricist Troy Gregory (Prong, Killing Joke) now took the songwriting helm, and the resulting STORM polarized much of Flotsam's hardcore fanbase. Borderline-commercial songs such as "Suffer The Masses" were viewed by some as an attempt at mainstreaming the group. The limited reissue version includes a bonus interview track with band members.
Flotsam and Jetsam, the five-piece from Phoenix, Arizona - a true thrash metal legend, unjustly underrated by the mainstream, but to this day gathering a loyal fellowship of fans. 'When The Storm Comes Down', originally released in 1990, remains one the group's most unique releases, showcasing amazing songwriting talent combined with a heavy dose of prime thrash riffing. For fans of old-school metal, this is an album to die for!
Recorded at Pyramid Sound, Ithaca, New York, Electric Lady, New York, New York and Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California.
Flotsam & Jetsam: Eric A.K. (vocals); Edward Carlson, Michael Gilbert (guitar, background vocals); Troy Gregory (bass, background vocals); Kelly Smith (drums, background vocals).

When The Storm Comes Down album
$13.15 If you want to determine whether someone is a serious metal connoisseur or has a more casual interest in metal, try running certain names by him/her. It isn't unusual for folks who are only casually interested in metal to have some Metallica, Slipknot, Judas Priest, or Korn in their CD collections -- those are huge, widely publicized bands -- but when a headbanger carries on enthusiastically about a cult band like Meliah Rage, Budgie, Grief, Hellhammer, or Saint Vitus, you know you're talking to someone who lives and breathes metal. Flotsam & Jetsam are another band that appeals to headbangers who dig much deeper than the basics; although never a major name, they have maintained a small cult following. Along the way, Flotsam & Jetsam have had numerous lineup changes -- and when you're that much of a revolving door, your work can be erratic. But ...

$11.65 The boys in Exodus followed 1989's Fabulous Disaster with Impact Is Imminent, in which the band pummels through riff upon endless riff. The bright spots are "Only Death Decides" and "Within the Walls of Chaos." ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

| | Flotsam & Jetsam Cuatro CD (1992) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
When The Storm Comes Down songs
$15.39 Despite showing much promise early in their career, Arizona thrashers Flotsam & Jetsam were quickly crippled by a number of personnel shakeups and lack of record company support, and with the genre in swift decline in the early '90s the band had become just another thrash metal casualty treading creative water. Still, with songs like "The Message," "Secret Square," and "Cradle Me Now" replacing some of their "speed for speed's sake" mentality with actual hooks and novel guitar textures, their fourth effort, Cuatro, did show a small but noticeable improvement over the utterly unoriginal thrash recipe of its predecessor. Unfortunately, much of the remaining material finds the band either reverting to its bad habits ("Swatting at Flies") or embarking on failed experiments ("Forget About Heaven"), and the fact that Flotsam & Jetsam would rebound three years ...
| | Flotsam & Jetsam Drift CD (1995) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Poland
When The Storm Comes Down album
$15.39 From a technician's standpoint, DRIFT is among Flotsam & Jetsam's finest work, bridging the gap between progressive rock and backstreet thrash. Flotsam & Jetsam has always been a band that defies trends. DRIFT is more visceral than Queensr˙che, more clear-cut than Dream Theater, and fiercer than Fates Warning. Where CUATRO, the band's previous effort, seemed primarily single-driven, DRIFT is album-oriented metal. The band's craft is so sharp and so refined that even the cover of Black Sabbath's "Fairies Wear Boots" sounds like an original Flotsam & Jetsam track.
Flotsam & Jetsam are beginning to sound a little tired on Drift, their fifth album. Nearly a decade after their debut, the band still sounds tight and their musical skills are quite impressive. Nevertheless, there is a distinct lack of new ideas. That in itself wouldn't be so bad but they haven't fashioned strong songs out of their trademark formula, which makes Drift interesting only to the band's most dedicated fans. [The CD was also released ...

When The Storm Comes Down album
$11.49 If you love classic & progressive rock from the 80's and early 90's - you'll love this CD!The production is top quality and the songs are amazing!Rendall Wagner is an Australian singer/songwriter with a mixed background - half Anglo, half Indian (the curry & rice type - not the American type). The songs on this debut CD are his reflection on life, love and the human spirit - and occasionally just some good old rock! Wagner's guitar style sits somewhere in between Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton, while his voice resembles a sweeter mix of Bryan Adams and Peter Gabriel. His ethnic mix combined with the emotion of a post war upbringing has combined for an interesting creative energy. A self-confessed Pink Floyd nut, they have certainly had a serious influence on this ...
