Stay With Me album
$13.69 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. QUIET NIGHTS isn't solely a Brazilian-themed outing, however, as Krall also spends plenty of time in the comfortable realm of the Great American Songbook, offering up elegant orchestral renditions of "I've Grown Accustomed to His Face" and the Bacharach/David gem "Walk On By" that benefit from her supremely smoky vocals and ...
| | Jeff Hamilton Symbiosis CD (2009)
Stay With Me CD music
$12.59 Jeff Hamilton's recordings have always been focused as straight-ahead and mainstream as your typical superhighway, with occasional time for rest stops, gassing up, and sleepovers. While always a good listen, Hamilton and his non-stop rotation of up-and-coming pianists and bassists never really pushed the envelope, staying the course set by his mentor, the late, great bassist Ray Brown, and other California-based coolsters. With Symbiosis, though, there's a change in the weather with the addition of extraordinary young talent in pianist Tamir Hendelman and bassist Christoph Luty. This is not at all to say that Hamilton's music had no fire, guts, or glory, but the difference in internal energy heard on this recording is noticeable. Hamilton is also playing brushes for the most part, instead of sticks, and he proves the finest exponent of that style of jazz performance ...

| | Miles Davis Tribute To Jack Johnson CD (1970) Remastered
Stay With Me album
$7.59 A TRIBUTE TO JACK JOHNSON was originally conceived as the soundtrack for a documentary on the life of the first African American heavyweight boxing champion, but the album stands on its own as one of the most brilliant, compelling fusion recordings ever made. This is due in large part to the increasing influence of rock and funk on Miles's aesthetic, to the superb musicians (including Davis himself-- who turns in some stunningly vigorous solos), and in part to the production skills of Teo Macero, who collaged the album together from numerous jam sessions into two lengthy, majestic tracks.
The infectious boogaloo groove of "Right Off" has John McLaughlin's crunching, wah-wah-driven power ...
| | Spyro Gyra Road Scholars CD (1997)
Stay With Me CD music
$12.65 If you don't like Lite Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Instrumental Pop, whatever you want to call it; stuff that wouldn't sound out of place in between David Sanborn and Kenny G on your local radio station, you probably shouldn't even be reading this far, because Spyro Gyra are avatars of the style. If their bag is your bag, however, you can feel comfortable diving right in to the sonic tapestry that is ROAD SCHOLARS. The band's synth-driven instrumental assault, led by keyboardist Tom Schuman, has remained consistent throughout their years of recording and touring together, and the formula here is very much in keeping with their trademark sound.
Funky drums, complex, dexterous keyboard work, and spare, melodic sax lines abound. The title refers to the fact every track here (with the exception of the newly recorded ...
| | Poem Rocket Psychogeography CD (2000)
Stay With Me music CDs
$12.95 New York City trio Poem Rocket released Psychogeography, its third album and debut for the Atavistic label in October 2000. More straightforward but as uncompromising as ever, this CD contains 15 songs ranging from acoustic pseudo-ballad ("Intermission") to full-fledged noise rock anthem ("Reurbanization ...
| | Peter Ustinov Grand Prix Of Gibraltar CD (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
Stay With Me songs
$12.65 This surreal classic find the late Peter Ustinov performing all the voices and effects for an imaginary car race in Gibraltar--strange, funny, and wonderful.
"The brilliant humorist takes a devastating look at sports car racing," goes the subtitle to this late-'50s satire, in which Ustinov does all the voices (and many of the sound effects, including mimics of engines revving up). Some of it's much funnier if you're a racing aficionado than if you aren't, and it's more often modestly funny than uproarious (though it is uproarious on occasion). Still, the 55 minutes of comic sketches based around a fictional Grand Prix in Gibraltar are admirably done (and, according to Ustinov's comments in the detailed historical liner notes to the CD reissue, not even done with the use of a prepared script). The most impressive facet is Ustinov's skill at mimicking the voices and inflections ...
| | Bill Evans At Montreux Jazz Festival CD (1968)
Stay With Me album
$24.45 Recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Casino De Montreux, Montreux, Switzerland on June 15, 1968. Originally released on Verve (8762). Includes liner notes by Gene Lees.
Digitally remastered by Dennis Drake (Polygram Studios) and Gert Van Hoeyen (Polygram Sound Lab, Baarn, The Netherlands).
This 1968 release of Bill Evans' performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival the year before is a pinnacle of trio interplay (handily justifying its being awarded a Grammy for Best Instrumental Small Group Jazz Performance). Drummer Jack DeJohnette, at the beginning of his career ascension, spent only a year with Evans. His playing at this performance embraces the rich trio format that Evans developed, wherein each of the three are of seemingly equal voice. Listening to this set, one is hard pressed to identify any one musician as being in support of the others; rather, they are in tandem or in conversation. The previously unissued "Quiet Now" joins "I Loves You Porgy" as gorgeously emotive meditation for solo piano.
Bill Evans' 1968 release, AT THE MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL, marks the beginning ...
