Centrifugal album
$14.19 The fourth of four CD reissues taken from Art Pepper's three nights at the Village Vanguard in July 1977, as with the other releases, adds one selection ("Scrapple from the Apple") to the music of the original LP; all of the performances on this and the other sets have since been made available as part of a massive nine-CD box set. The great altoist was clearly excited to be playing at the famous New York club, and his rhythm section -- pianist George Cables, bassist George Mraz and drummer Elvin Jones -- consistently stimulates his imagination. This release has more ...

| | Chris Botti In Boston CDs (2009) With DVD
Centrifugal music CDs
$14.99 A sequel of sorts to Chris Botti's 2006 PBS special, LIVE WITH ORCHESTRA & SPECIAL GUESTS, the September 2008 event LIVE IN BOSTON found the sartorially splendid cool jazz trumpeter accompanied by the Boston Symphony and a collection of celebrity vocalists. Also available as a DVD, the concert delivers an overview of popular music, with jazz standards like "I've Got You Under My Skin" right alongside "Ave Maria" and Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You." Whether featuring rocker Steven Tyler, AMERICAN IDOL chanteuse Katharine McPhee, or pop-opera superstar Josh Groban, all the tunes are presented in Botti's inimitable, Chet Baker-influenced uber-smooth style.
The trumpeter and special guests performed 2 star-studded concerts at the historic Boston Symphony Hall with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops on September 18 & 19, 2008. This DVD/CD set includes a 13 song CD plus 2 hour concert DVD, plus a 40 minute behind the scenes bonus. Special guests include Sting, Lucia Micarelli, Katherine McPhee, Yo-Yo Ma, Josh Groban, ...
| | Vijay Iyer Historicity CD (2010) Digipak
Centrifugal songs
$14.15 Vijay Iyer has captured the ears of critics and listeners like only a handful of the most elite jazz pianists since McCoy Tyner, Cecil Taylor, or Misha Mengelberg initially burst onto the scene. There's no other single player who sounds even remotely like him, few who can match his inventive and whimsical ...
| | George Winston Autumn CD (1980) Windham Hill 20th Anniversary Edition
Centrifugal album
$8.89 Principally recorded on June 19-20, 1980. Includes liner notes by George Winston.
AUTUMN was superstar new age pianist George Winston's first album to sell more than 1,000,000 copies. Listening to these spare, emotionally rich pieces, it's easy to understand why. But it's also clear what sets Winston apart from the hordes of other new age piano soloists: an insistent--occasionally even jarring--gothic sensibility that informs his music.
Like many of his albums, AUTUMN found its inspiration in the seasonal changes wrought ...

Centrifugal CD music
$31.59 One of Beñat Achiary's best recorded solo performances, period. The Seven Circles captures the mad Basque vocalist in all his glory. Sound quality is perfect on this live recording: every inflection, every small percussion instrument Achiary uses makes it clearly into the microphone, finally giving an exact reproduction of his "larger-than-life" performances. This concert at the Music Unlimited XVI festival took place two months after the death of bassist Peter Kowald. It could be seen as a 45-minute exorcism of his death, a personal and collective ritual in order to come to terms with his loss. The opening poem by Gherasim Luca sets the tone and will be joined by other texts and poems by Federico Garcia Lorca, Josean Artze and Jon Mirande, read or sung throughout the performance. "Pansori ...

| | Patti Smith Wave CD (1979)
Centrifugal CD music
$6.79 Principally recorded at Bearsville, Saugerties, New York. Originally released on Arista (8546).
With the success of the hit 1978 album EASTER and its single, "Because the Night," most fans assumed that The Patti Smith Group would continue their successful streak for years to come. Before sessions began for the follow-up to EASTER, Patti Smith met ex-MC5 guitarist Fred 'Sonic' Smith--the pair quickly fell in love and eventually married. Soon after, Smith decided that she wanted to retire from the music biz altogether to start a family, but agreed to record one last album, 79's WAVE.
Produced by pop master Todd Rundgren, the album was more abstract than its predecessor, but another strong set of tunes were featured. The album-opening pop rocker, "Frederick," is a tribute to Patti's new love, while a pair of songs ...
