| | Michael Burks Iron Man CD Michael Burks Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Contemporary blues guitarist Michael Burks returns with his fourth album, the powerful IRON MAN. Co-produced by Burks and Alligator Records owner Bruce Iglauer and written largely by Burks, these 12 songs are textbook modern electric blues featuring Burks's passionate gutbucket vocals and his trademark stinging lead guitar. Highlights include the powerful seven-minute epic "Icepick Through My Heart" and the soulful rocker "Strange Feeling."Living Blues (p.79) - "Burks varies the tempo throughout IRON MAN, but his blistering guitar is ever present and ready to rip." Mojo (Publisher) (p.111) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Better paced and more diverse than his past work, IRON MAN elevates Burk to the first rank." | | Sonny Landreth From The Reach CD (2008)
Iron Man album
$13.49 Louisiana slide master Sonny Landreth takes his time between releases -- his last studio disc of original material was five years prior to this -- but when they arrive, the wait seems justified. For the debut album on his own Landfall records, Landreth calls in marquee name guitarists Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Robben Ford, Eric Johnson, and Vince Gill to bolster the visibility factor. Rather than focusing on guitar duals, Landreth wrote songs that incorporate their styles, and occasional vocals, organically into the material. There are plenty of stunning solos of course, but they are integrated into the tunes that stand up just fine without the six-string fireworks. The album's title is a double entendre as "reach" is a body of water and also describes Landreth inviting his guests to be part of the project. The water theme appears in a few post-Katrina songs like the scathing "Blue Tarp ...

| | Ken Overcast Montana Cowboy CD (2008)
Iron Man songs
$18.89 '! he may be the last of the real singing cowboys.' Nashville Producer, Russ Ragsdale Ken Overcast is the real deal. In this day and age of plastic throwaway everything, to find someone that is really genuine is a treat indeed. While many in the performing arts tend towards honing an act that is saleable, Ken strives very diligently to just be himself. His music, writing, and public performances are characterized by a down home connection that is indeed rare. He's a third generation Montanan, and is truly making a mark on America's entertainment. Both Ken's recording and writing have been very prolific, with at least one new recording project in the mill constantly. He's the author of three books of "mostly humorous' short stories centered in the Real West (most of which he's unfortunately had the opportunity to experience first hand). Ken is also the author of a popularly syndicated column, and is the host of a nationally syndicated radio program, The Cowboy Show with Ken Overcast, which features both contemporary cowboy music and interviews, ...
| | Karl Sharicz Dancing Hearts CD (2008)
Iron Man album
$13.15 Quincy, MA based singer-songwriter Karl Sharicz is making his mark once again with an all original follow up to his first CD Rough Draft. Titled Dancing Hearts, this most recent excursion features Karl in a much more alt-country-tinged pop-oriented space. The songs are full of catchy hooks and cunning lyrics, conjuring up sounds of the 60s yet with a decided contemporary flair. The arrangement and production were obviously well thought-out. Recorded in the sleepy but burgeoning central Massachusetts township of Westminster high upon a moonlit hill at The Root Cellar Studios, produced by late-70s Boston rock stalwart Jeff Root (of Hot Dates fame) Karl moves the bar several notches higher with 12 original tunes supported by a host of local musical talent. Augmented by the likes of multi-instrumentalist and wizard of 'anything with strings' Steve Sadler (Shawn Mullins, Susan Werner, Dennis Brennan, Swinging Steaks, Barrence Whitfield, the Fools, Asa Brebner, Carla Ryder, and many others) Karl's tunes come alive from the very first intro and jangle-y 12-string of Turn ...
| | Monocles Spider, The Fly And The Boogieman CD (2008)
Iron Man CD music
$11.59 Hailing from Greeley, CO, the Monocles served as an unwitting example of the strange effect LSD had on America's youth during the mid- to late 1960s. Early on, the Monocles started out as a fairly ordinary pop-rock outfit, playing stuff like "Sound of the Surf," "Heartbreak Hill," and "Treat Me Nice" that would raise no eyebrows at a typical teen club gig or high school dance. Then in mid-1966 the Monocles began to change; they cut a tune called "Psychedelic (That's Where It's At)" that doesn't sound all that freaky until you get to the guitar ...
