Singer/songwriter Millie Palmer is a college student who plays the guitar and piano. Millie's hometown is Asheville, North Carolina. Millie's sound is eclectic acoustic alt rock/pop. Her voice has been compared to Norah Jones, Bonnie Raitt and KT Tunstall. Millie is a Christian and her songs have a Christian message behind them. She recently played a show with Derek and Kevin Stipe of Monday Morning, along with Karl Ruch, William F. Gibbs, and Doss Church, for the launch of LiveKite.com. Her strongest influences of music are Switchfoot, Mute Math, KT Tunstall, Alexi Murdoch, Neil Young, Copeland, and Alison Krauss. Millie has played numerous shows in and around Asheville NC. She is working on planning a tour to further cities in the near future. Millie is young yet very devoted to music. Dedicating one song to her late father who passed away in January 2002, Ruthie Foster's vocals mix gospel with a healthy helping of Texas blues in the vein of Bonnie Raitt or occasionally Melissa Etheridge. The mid-tempo opener, "Runaway Soul," is a solid beginning with harmonica and Hammond organ. Her softer side is also shown in some delightful harmonies. "Woke Up This Mornin'" has a Sunday church feeling, slowly building into a funky Southern track with a choir-like harmony. "Smalltown Blues" takes more of an acoustic slant, featuring mainly Foster and acoustic guitar dominating the tune. This is hardly "the best of Fairport Convention," focusing as it does on a pretty slim slice of their career. All of these ten songs were done within about a year and a half of each other between 1968 and 1970. As it happens, this is the peak of their career, and the phase that saw them progress into interesting variations on folk-rock with each album, from a more balanced base to a more avowedly British traditional one. Released just six months after the H-Town icon's tragic death, Pimp C's GREATEST HITS focuses primarily on the UGK member's two solo albums, THE SWEET JAMES JONES STORIES and PIMPALATION.
