Best known abroad for her work with the electronica act Zero 7 (on 2004's WHEN IT FALLS), Danish performer Tina Dico is a prolific singer-songwriter in the Fiona Apple alt-pop vein. Highlights of her confident fourth album, COUNT TO TEN, include the moody, wistful "Sacre Coeur" and the gentle, Joni Mitchell-esque "Craftsmanship and Poetry."Q (Magazine) (p.103) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "COUNT TO TEN wears its country-tinged earnestness on its sleeve....Much of it works, particularly 'Open Wide,' a lament destined for its spiritual home, Memphis." Mojo (Publisher) (p.112) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Dico's voice is a powerful, expressive and malleable instrument; her lyrics are sincere, concise and better composed than many by native English speakers..." Paste (magazine) (p.67) - "COUNT TO TEN, her fourth solo album, has a rock edge that better suits her steely vocals..." Count To Ten songs
$47.65 This is a tribute album for blue-collar bard Bruce Springsteen.
Not quite as impressive as 1997's One Step Up/Two Steps Back: The Songs of Bruce Springsteen, with whom it shares two artists (E Street guitarist Nils Lofgren and this album's artistic director, Elliott Murphy), Light of Day: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen presents 37 tracks also spread over two discs. Interestingly, only six songs are duplicated, and different artists perform them. This is not only a testament to Springsteen's quantity of work, but a cursory listen to these songs shows the quality as well. In any case, there is a lot of music here. The focus is Springsteen as singer/songwriter, which results in a large proportion of unplugged strumming guitars and rootsy, rearranged versions with an emphasis on vocals and lyrics. The acts range from the well-known but not quite superstars (Elvis Costello, Cowboy Mouth, Pete Yorn, Billy Bragg) to recognizable club-sized performers (Patty Griffin, Graham Parker, Steve Wynn, the Clarks) to obscure but heartfelt musicians (everyone else). Given the approach, albums such as Tunnel of Love and especially Nebraska are mined for their more introspective tunes. Still, there are a fair share of rockers here (Parker's "Pink Cadillac," Joe Grushecky's "Light of Day") although except for a frantic "Born to Run" from Cowboy Mouth, most are slowed down or given a more sensitive reading. Released in 2003, there are no tracks from either The Rising or 1995's The Ghost of Tom Joad and only a few from 1992's Human Touch and Lucky Town. The disc does unearth some interesting obscurities -- Lofgren's version of "Man at the Top," Marc Broussard's "Back in Your Arms," the Paradise Brothers' "Souls of the Departed" among them -- that spotlight Springsteen's less popular work. Most of the ...

Count To Ten album
$9.59 About me and my musicMy love for music started at a very young age. Too young to know how old I was. Let's make it three or maybe four. Somewhere in the late seventies. Both my grandma's had organ's (the musical kind) in their homes. Whenever we went visiting, I would hit the organ. Hitting pots and pans also sufficed. In the 8th grade (standerd 6 for the old timers), my parents sent me for formal music lessons (still with the organ). That lasted a full 2 sessions. I told my dad it's @&@. He said it's OK not to go again. Life was sweet.I watched way too many music videos, like any other kid. But I focused on the structure of the songs, not just the melody and lyrics. Listening to what each instrument did, when it did it, how long, how loud, etc. It all made sense. My father showed me 3 chords on his old guitar. A, D and E. My cousin showed me two more, C and G. Around the same time my mother bought me a Casio keyboard (one of those small, but powerful ones). It was like having a whole band at my disposal. Again, life was sweet, but this time a composer was born. It took me all but half an hour to come up with a tune decent enough to kick butt. I tried my best to convince all my closest friends to buy instruments and start a band. It didn't pan. One of my best friends (Bekker) got a guitar ...

Count To Ten songs
$18.99 Singer songwriter and poet, Zachary Richard (pronounced Ree-shard) was born and raised in Southwest Louisiana. His music is influenced by the styles typical of the region : Cajun, Zydeco and New Orleans rhythm and blues. But, Zachary has always gone beyond the limitations of any particular style. With his latest album Lumière dans le noir (Light in the dark-2007), Zachary Richard goes deeper into his own unique musical universe.Zachary Richard began his musical career at the age of 8 years. As first soprano of the Bishop's Boys Choir at Saint John's Cathedral in Lafayette Louisiana, he discovered his love for singing. After a university career distinguished mostly by the composition of his first songs and resistance to the war in Viet Nam, Zachary moved to New York City. It was there that he obtained his first recording contract in 1972. His first album, High Time, was recorded at the Record Plant with the crême de la crême of New York session musicians. The album was never released, forgotten for nearly 30 years in the vaults of Electra Records until rediscovered in 2000 by Rhino Records. Leaving New York in 1973, Zachary went to France, accompanied by his musical partner, Michael Doucet.. It was in France that Zachary found an audience, and discovered his roots. Zachary Richard grew up in a typical Cajun family. He learned to speak French from his grandparents, who were of the last generation of French speakers in Louisiana. The Cajun musical tradition and native Louisiana French would have a tremendous influence on his career. Completely bilingual, Zachary Richard composes both in English and in French. While grounded in Louisiana tradition, Zachary has been able to forge for himself a unique and uniquely personal voice. From 1976 until 1981, Zachary lived in Montreal, recording seven albums (including two « gold » albums) which melded his Cajun roots with modern folk-rock.. These albums ...
