More than 30 years after the English quintet's inception, Def Leppard have survived and thrived while many of their pop-metal contemporaries have stumbled into obscurity or gone on dubious reunion tours. SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE marks a long-awaited return to the catchy yet edgy hard rock perfected on their career-defining landmark full-length, HYSTERIA (1987). While the band's most successful works were crafted under the strict mentorship of producer Jeff "Mutt" Lange, SPARKLE LOUNGE is a DIY affair, with co-production assistance from live sound engineer Ronan McHugh. First single "Nine Lives" includes a Def Leppard first: guest lead vocals by well-known country singer Tim McGraw. "C'Mon C'Mon" has the stacked background vocals and glam rock swagger that is part and parcel of the group's weathered arsenal. "Tomorrow" packs the kind of stick-to-your-ribs, harmony-laden chorus that is both familiar and fresh. Def Lep in 2008 maintain a contemporary sensibility, yet remain true to their roots.
Def Leppard: Joe Elliot (vocals); Phil Collen, Vivian Campbell (guitar); Rick Savage (bass guitar); Rick Allen (drums).
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.46) - "[A] sturdy-as-steel return, big chopping guitars and massed harmonies, all peppered with the British superstars' juvenile jollity and flashes of retro heritage." To anyone who doesn't like the new Def Leppard album I have news for you guys they did more that just Pyromania and Hysteria and they have only gotten better with age. How can you not like the new material I mean the whole cd is great and it is a classic def leppard sound/album. After X, and Yeah this is good sign that they are going back to their traditional style of music. All the songs are good and the album is their most complete in years. A 5 out of 5 and beyond is what I would score it and judging by how it is selling I think most fans agree. Submitted by Holtj04 (Greensboro, NC) Was This Review Helpful? LEPPARD ROCKS This album is good, better than Yeah, better than X, the songs are simple rock songs, similar to high N'dry,
good stuff Submitted by Larry (Clemson,SC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 2 found this helpful.
Best rock album today People forget to compare Def Leppards new album Songs From The Sparkle Lounge to what is available out there by other artists, and not compare it to albums of the band itself, especialy not albums like the ground braking Hysteria that simply just cant be bettered. Songs from the sparkle lounge is the most exciting rock album of the decade and is going to hit the charts in a big way simply because it sounds fresher and more exiting than any other rock album today. It's Great No, it's not Hysteria! Get over it! Why should that be a bad thing? All the songs are great. They're still true to their trademark sound, the songs are fun and my only disappointment is the total time (40 minutes) of the album. Keep rockin' guys - the concert was great, too. Back with a Vengence This Cd rocks. That's something that hasn't been said about Def Leppard cds much lately. Anyone that likes the older Def Leppard should like this. Sounding more like a cross between Pyromania and Retroactive this cd is already making people that had written Def Leppard off look up and take notice again.
GO is the heaviest track they have ever done.
Bad Actress Phil said is probably the fastest song they have ever done. That's in speed, not time, just to clarify.
Overall this is a solid album. There is no real weak song on it. It was said that there was not going to be a ballad and some will argue the song LOVE is a ballad. The difference being it is also a strong song musically. It goes from soft to almost Pink Floyd/War of the Worlds/Queen style. I like it.
Do yourself a favour get this cd, you wont regret it. Submitted by lovenlust72 (Newcastle, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

$15.19 I grew up in the low country of South Carolina. My Daddy and Grandaddy were both Pentecostal preachers, (which pretty much means directions to the churches where they preached and I went usually included crossing rail-road tracks and taking dirt roads) ... so my earliest musical influence was in church ... mama taking my hands and showing me how to clap on 2 and 4 ... teaching me how to sing harmony ... singin' I'll Fly Away, Amazing Grace and Just As I Am ... always on the backbeat ... and soon as I could sit where i wanted to in church ... from the backseat ...I started singing solo in church before I was five years old and Daddy should've known better ... I've never stopped ... well not for long anyway. The first music I ever owned was a Beatles 45 that had "If I Fell" and I think another ballad ... like "And I Love Her" or something like that ...can't remember but I do remember my mama coming into my room and listening and saying these guys were good ... mama sure knew what was good ... she turned me on to Sinatra and The Platters ... and I am sure she was in love with Dean Martin ...The first album I ever owned was Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison record and it was the coolest thing ever til mama heard the cussin' on the record and took it from me ... I listened to everything I could get away with in a Pentecostal preacher's home ... but I have to say ... it wasn't strict by Pentecostal standards ... our family loved music of all kinds ... I can even remember some lady in Daddy's church fussin' at him about the kind of music the preacher's children listened to and how we were a bad influence ... I don't think it fazed Daddy one bit ... Daddy's the one who turned me on to Isaac Hayes! "Hot Buttered Soul" and "I Stand Accused" and believe me ... Ike's rap was way cool years before Barry White got famous for a commercialized version ... not to take anything away from Barry White ... but check out any "Ike's Rap" which shows up on most Isaac Hayes records.I listened to The Beatles, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, the STAX stuff, CCR, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Jim Croce, Elton John, Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, and others too numerous to mention... and they all influenced me and what I like in music...I hit the bars with my guitar when I was 17 and played the beach circuit for several years before moving to Nashville in 1984. I went to Belmont University and studied Music Business and Finance. In 1988 I met producer Marshall Morgan, who signed me as a staff songwriter to Taste Auction Music. In 1992 I opened my own publishing company, Wacissa River Music, Inc. In 2006 I started Chuck Cannon Music which covers all my new publishing and production efforts. These are my publishing companies and they have exactly one writer and he is all I can put up with ... I look at him every morning and say, "get off your ass!" he looks back from the mirror and says, "get of my ass!!" ... One of my greatest honors was to be elected President of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI, 2001-2003). I still serve on their Executive Board and Legislative Committees. The honors my songs have garnered include BMIs Eight-Million-Air award for the song "I Love The Way You Love Me" which was the Academy of Country Music's 1993 Song of the Year and went on to become an international ...
| | Jackson Rohm Long Way From Moving On CD (2008)
Songs From The Sparkle Lounge CD music
$13.89 In today’s musical climate, change is often dictated by the instability and turmoil within the recording industry. However, as Jackson Rohm can attest, change in an artist can happen organically through experience, musical growth and simply being willing to try new things. With 1200 shows under his belt and over 14,000 albums sold, Jackson Rohm has moved from playing predominantly pop/rock to finally finding a suitable niche in country music with his new release, “Long Way From Moving On”. Recorded in Nashville, the album has garnered much early release praise and is Jackson’s biggest production to date. “In the past, we’ve recorded the songs with more of a piecemeal approach in the studio, assembling each song ...
