The Western trail can be a risky one, but for one destitute lawman, it's a road to redemption. For 3 troubled women, it's a journey toward hope. And for one female outlaw, it's as good a place as any to keep running. In Clearwater, Preston Biggs was once the law. That was before his wife died and grief drove him to the bottle. Along the treacherous prairie plains, Olivia is a beautiful, sharp, armed, desperate woman on the run from her vengeful partner, Monte. Join this unusual band of outcasts fighting for their lives in this story of redemptive love, gripping adventure, and rousing pioneer spirit. Kevin Sorbo, Lance Henricksen, and Jamie Anne Allman star. Sheriff Preston Biggs (Kevin Sorbo, HERCULES) has been spending every waking moment drowning his sorrows in whiskey after he accidentally shot his wife in a hostage situation two years ago. His life once again sees a woman's touch--fourfold--when he is tasked with transporting three mail order brides diagnosed with "prairie fever" (mental instability) to Carson City's train station. Overhearing the cries of some of the brides, no-nonsense con-woman Olivia crashes in on the traveling party, only to develop a maternal attachment to Abigail, the youngest of the girls, and a surprising bond with Biggs. Olivia has baggage of her own, though, and it isn't long before her dangerous ex, James Monte (Lance Henriksen, ALIENS), is on their tail. Dominique Swain (FACE/OFF) also stars in this unusually sensitive yet action-packed Western. | | Lee Greenwood American Patriot CD (1992)
Prairie Fever review
$7.85 Spurred on by George Bush's unofficial adoption of "God Bless the USA" as the new American anthem, Lee Greenwood recorded American Patriot in the midst of the President's (ultimately unsuccessful) re-election campaign in 1992. American Patriot sealed Greenwood's stance as American songteller extraordinaire. Every song on the album is, unsurprisingly, about America, from "The Pledge of Allegiance" and "The Star Spangled Banner" to "God Bless America" and "God Bless the USA." Of course, Woody Guthrie's populist anthem "This Land Is Your Land" takes on a different meaning in this context, but that's not surprising -- American Patriot is a slick, satisfied album designed for the modern-day patriot and conservative, not for dust bowl activists or smugly sophisticated liberals. In other words, if you've been a fan of "God Bless the USA" since its first incarnation in the early '80s, you'll be happy with this full-blown sequel. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

$9.09 Here's a gunslinger's tale with a different approach. With the railroad making its way across the States, some landowners don't want to sell out in the name of "progress" and are willing to back up their staunch opposition with bullets and, in the case of one family, a reclusive sharpshooter. Ernest Borgnine and Casper Van Dien star in this moody western about the clash between modernity and traditional values.
A rousing western adventure of the men and women who made the West, Aces N' Eights is a sure-fire winning draw you can bet on. A war is waged when a small group of steadfast landowners in the frontier town of ...
