Scrapple To The Apple album
$10.09 What is it?âWe have played with transvestites, folk singers, been in bands we did not want to be in, and sold burgers from a stand. Star Little Thing was our opportunity to do something we all wanted to doâ. Following the demise of other musical projects, Arron and Grattan were keen to start something new. They spent a while kicking some dance tunes around, but found that grew tired fairly quickly. A chance meeting, on the street, with writer, cricky, was to mean Star Little Thing were born. Cricky added the missing piece to the puzzle. Words were not something Grattan or Arron found an easy thing to do, so minds met, and music was made, to varying degrees of experimentation , electronica, dance, rock, and pop.âLovers of Lifeâ, although one of the later songs to be written by the band, was their first single. It received heavy air play on radio nationwide, but none more so than phantom, who championed the song from day 1. With all this attention it wasnât long before drinks giant Heineken came knockin to include the song in their latest TV ad, which saw the song as the idea for the ad, rather than a mere backing track.A string of shows then saw the bands profile rise and rise, which climaxed in summer 2007 with the bands 2nd headline slot @ Castlepalooza, where the lads were joined for the first time by the full live band, and were considered by many to have been the band of the weekend. All this build up, led nicely to the release of their debut album.âIts easy to be alive you just areâ was released in oct â07 amidst a haze of media, as part of the âWrangler wanted weekendâ, alongside acts such as MOS DEF, and DE LA SOUL. The album was critically welcomed. The Dubliner said âI am very happy to own this recordâ. âA refreshing change from those albums that boast a handful of singles and a fistful of fillerâ, Hot Press. âDownright creepy, atmospheric, and inventiveâ, Mail on sunday. And the band were delighted to be included in the Sunday Times Style magazines top ten things to watch out for , alongside the cream of music, ...

$31.55 | | Treva Blomquist As It Should Be CD (2008)
Scrapple To The Apple CD music
$10.15 Almost two hundred fans packed The Basement, Nashvilleâs indie music mecca, for a performance by Treva Blomquist that marked the summertime release of As It Should Be, her second CD. There was that palpable sort of expectation in the air you only find when word is out that the performer taking the stage has unique gifts -- and that those on hand are lucky to be in on the fact early. The Suits â Trevaâs 4-piece electric/acoustic band, was augmented as they are on the new CD by a lush string section. The sound Treva delivered cannot be instantly pegged âfolk,â âAmericana,â âchick rock,â âsoul,â or even âjazz,â though there are elements in her music of all of those. Enthralled critics have described it as âdeep,â âstarkly beautiful,â and âexceptionally listenable.â \"And what she says of the music herself is simply that âItâs from the heart. I want it to bring on that uplifted, lighter feeling that follows the sigh after a long day of work, to help somebody unwind, relaxâand smile.âTreva (pronounced âTREE-vaâ) is blessed with an extraordinary vocal range - forceful and edgy on its low end, precise yet vulnerable on the high side. More to the point, she puts those gifts to use knowingly and precisely, to serve her emotionally varied songs. The result is utterly fetching. Comparisons to the vocalizing of Patty Griffin, Jewel and Mindy Smith have been madeâbut they donât quite nail it. Odds are, in a few years, people will be trying to compare voices to Trevaâs.Her melodically crafted songs of life and relationships run an emotional gamut from chilled down and at peace to reawakening in love. Whether entirely self-penned or the result of collaboration, the songs are marked by a strong storytelling sense and a gift for finding a fresh, specific point of view, song by song. The driving, catchy âYou Deserve Betterâ takes the form of observations for a friend who really needs to hear them. âLife Goes On,â a standout on her first, acoustic CD Plain Vanilla Me, inhabits the pivotal instant, years after a relationship ends, when some emotional perspective takes hold. The remarkable ballads âI Could Get Used to Thisâ and the gorgeous, ecstatic âLove Abounds,â transport the listener to the stunning moment of completion, safety and overflowing happiness in love realized. Her lyrics are based on careful observations of lifeâthough not always from her own. âIâm the worst liar in the world,â she laughs, âand I have a really hard time making things up, so almost everything in my songs are true -- though ...
