ANN ARBOR CURRENT, JUNE 2008"...it’s the electro-jazz / power prog rock trio Aleph-1 from Ann Arbor, with their sleek sci-fi inflected synths and rapid rhythms. With staggering instrumental compositions that feel almost orchestral in structure, they still keep a distinctly jazzy improvisational looseness. Their debut self-titled album galvanizes cinematic sounding electronic odysseys that combine the fantastic urgency one might feel if we were trapped inside our computer fending off viscous viruses or rival 'red guy' motorcycle riders ala ‘Tron;’ their sound is an invigorating clash of nostalgic '50's sci-fi film vibes with kitschy UFO synth howls charged by 80's new wave buzzy grooves and prog-rock trounced rhythms. (Think: "Tortoise, Nils Petter Molaver, 70's prog rock and, of course, Dr. Dre's beats.") Live, the band can be as fiery and ferocious as an amped up jazz rampage, utilizing drums with 2 samplers, 2 synthesizers and the occasional guitar. Their debut album is a staggering journey of invigoration, melodrama and dream-pop soundscapes; the transitions are baffling (the percussion on “DB” goes from hip/hop to speed-metal in one measure yet the flow is as natural as the sun setting); while the synths on “Plan 9” start with a Twilight Zone vibe then morph it into a house-rave blitz; and “GoodCop” features a bass line so full of character and charm you’d think it to be born from the soulful grooves of Motown."REAL DETROIT WEEKLY, MAY 20084 STARS"The opening track is a journey featuring distinct, fuzzed and whirling synth melodies with operatic crescendos, hard-hitting percussions, warbled electronic harmonies and inventive minds for songwriting. We have rollicking rock rhythms, video-game heroic melodrama melodies, grooving skewed disco grooves, all set to structures that shift smoothly, almost orchestral in formation. Take the jazzy post-rock of Tortoise and add futuristic, dreamy landscapes of Kraftwerk, Japancakes and Gary Numan — then add intricate keyboard melodies, bass bounces and hard-driving rhythms. Mega Man kung fu with Ultraman in a car chase with McQueen on Saturn." — JEFF MILOMIKE ROMINIECKI, THE NORTH WIND MAGAZINE, FEB 20085/5 stars"Aleph-1's new CD is an outstanding instrumental electronica album. They seem to draw their influences from all over the place, but especially dub, rock, industrial and rave. Try thinking of Ghostbusters mixed with Phantom of the Opera, while tripping on acid, and that is similar to what Aleph-1 is like. For fans of: The Faint, Rinocerose, 65daysofstatic, Aphex Twin"ADAM REY, ANN ARBOR'S 107one"Emotional digi-jammin' with hooks you never see coming... it's great for dancing, and anything else you want to do with a fresh dose of awesome!" Aleph-1 songs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the ...

| | Andrew Healey Urban Songs CD (2008)
Aleph-1 songs
$6.49 Urban Songs is the debut EP by Auckland New Zealand Singer/Songwriter, Andrew Healey. Healey recorded, produced and played most of the instruments on this 6-track CD, with a little help from several collaborators at Glass Onion Studios in Mt Wellington, Auckland. Many will recognize Healey from his numerous solo appearances over the years at popular Auckland venues. His intense performances, expressive voice and melodic, well structured songs set him apart from others in Auckland’s music scene. Though Urban Songs is his first solo recording, Healey first appeared on the 2006 compilation album, On the Horizon: a Songwriters’ Collection, with an acoustic performance of ‘Little King’ – a song about the relationship between father and son. New Zealand Musician Magazine singled out this song, describing it as ‘moving.’ A rearranged version of ‘Little King’ appears on Urban Songs, along with five other pop gems, like the caustic ‘Sick Love,’ the frenetic ‘Stand,’ and the beautifully uncomplicated ‘Sailing.’Look out for Healey over the coming months as he hits the road accompanied by a number of musical friends. Urban Songs is just a taste of things to come; he has dozens of songs in his repertoire and plans to release a full length album in 2008 – watch this space.\"Urban Songs\" - Andrew Healey. 25 October 2007 His music is elegant, simplistic in form, and relies on the surprisingly deep character of Andrew Healey\'s voice to merge with lyrics that are reminiscent of a carefully-constructed, personal diary. He can dole out a poetic tune such as \"Litle King\" on one track then hop to harder edged offerings such as the ...
| | Onaje Murry Happy Feelings CD (2003)
Aleph-1 album
$12.69 Unlike many bands in the Southern California area, P.S. Island displays a variety of uniqueness in sound and style. The bands' repertoire includes a selection of songs ranging from Blues to Jazz. This broad base of sound is further enchanded through the use of Reggae, Brazillian, Contemporary and Original music.Experiencing a performance by P.S. Island can best be described as electrifying, straight ahead, roots rubber dub, mellow and funky on the one experience.P.S. Island "live" on stage is in a league of its own mainly because of the mystical magic of the instrumentation, the seasoned stage presence of the personnel and the ocean of sound dancing and swaying to climatic heights that spurs an audience to a groove then cools the energy down with mellow tones of smoothe vibratons.Members include:Bassist Ryan Cross--A recent graduate from the University of Southern California of Jazz studies where he studied under the great master bassist and arranger John Clayton.
