This BEST OF collection from the unlikely MC to score rap's first crossover #1 hit, the Bowie & Queen sampling classic "Ice Ice Baby," fittingly starts with the original single version. Beyond that, the compilation explores all the phases of the fascinating life of Robert Van Winkle, from the hit re-tooling of "Play That Funky Music" to the harder MTV-soundstage-destroying edge of "Rollin' in My 5.0" to the theme to his motorcycle-sporting film, COOL AS ICE.

Best Of Vanilla Ice album
$15.89 The debut White Noise album featured Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson, who had worked for the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and David Vorhaus, who had studied classical orchestral bass playing and electronics. The instrumentation consisted of early electronic instruments and a huge amount of tape manipulation, the standard techniques of the Workshop in those days. The album originally released by Island Records in 1969 only emerged on CD - in a "matrix mixed" format - as late as 1996, again on Island, but was rapidly deleted. Island. 2004.
An Electric Storm is justly renowned among techno boffins as one of the first albums to fuse pop and electronic music before the advent of the Moog synthesizer. But you don't have to be versed in the language ...

Best Of Vanilla Ice music CDs
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef ...

This is a well structured, wise, and very lovely musical with charming lyrics and insightful musicality. The accompaniment is merely a piano, very well played by Michael Larson. The assembled cast is not only well attuned to the musical comedy (read Gilbert and Sullivan) idiom, but they also have individually excellent voices. Not that comparisons are necessary, but for those who have always loved the small scaled shows like THE FANTASTICKS then TORTOISE is bound to please. A well devised and performed show that would benefit from live performances - easy to stage, not with tremendous challenge to voices at the high school or college or community ...
