From his wiry, Eastern-influenced solos on Miles Davis's BITCHES BREW through his world fusion forays with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Shakti, guitar virtuoso John McLaughlin has always shown a keen interest in Indian music. Some 40 years into his career, that influence still holds sway, as 2009's FLOATING POINT attests. Though the synth guitar and polished production make the album less edgy than some of McLaughlin's work from the 1970s, there's no shortage of stunning instrumental work and bold, brain-bending ideas. Recorded in India with mostly Indian musicans, FLOATING POINT is another impressive notch in the guitar icon's lifelong pursuit of East-West fusion.
For Floating Point, which was recorded in India, McLaughlin used several of the best Indian musicians in the world. "Now while this CD features predominantly Indian musicians, we are in quite another form compared to the group Shakti," McLaughlin says. "

| Floating Point Music Review Average Rating: (2.8 out of 5 stars) Grace minus Passion & Fire Attention! To all original members of 'The Greatest Band That Ever Was!': The Mahavishnu Orchestra.
You need to catch the first flight to Monaco, (Jerry, bring a lotta cheap beer!), and rescue the greatest living guitarist, from becoming Sergio Mendes & India 66.
You can tell Johnny the time is right. Mahavishnu fans have patiently waited almost 4 decades, for a proper digital recording.
No reunion tour necessary.
Just get back in the studio, bring your egos, bring the edge...bring the burn!
For most of us Mahavishnu Fans, who understood the supreme virtuosity of McLaughlin, Goodman, Cobham, Hammer & Laird, it more or less, changed our lives. Changed the way we approached our own music.
That glorious feeling, has not been prevailent in recent McLaughlin offerings.
And to be fair, this current music venture, is obviously what the man wants to do.
But, after following the greatest living guitarist for more than 4 decades, I'm frankly starting to tire of this eloquent mindless doodling of late.
John, please bring back the fire.
No one has ever made music like The Mahavishnu Orchestra did. And no one ever will, until you do.
And we will keep this inner mounting flame burning, until you do... Submitted by The Wizard (Southern Utah) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 3 of 4 found this helpful.
This Too Shall Pass No trace of Bitches Brew, or Inner Mounting Flame remains here. Be thankful they happened, but Mr Mclaughlin has moved on to quiter pastures. The flame is low. There is still gentle creativity, and reflection. And some excellent Bass playing from Hadrien Faroud. Anyone yearn for Jonas Hellborg? Oh well. We were lucky to be there. Buy this CD in thanks for past glories, and move on. Submitted by chrissie_hy (Fort Worth TX USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Floating Point
$21.55 Trio Beyond is the name of the group that played at Queen Elizabeth's Hall in London, 2004. Jack DeJohnette initiated a project to pay tribute to the late Tony Williams' Lifetime -- with the late Larry Young on organ and guitarist John McLaughlin, all three were Miles alumni -- a band that, along with the Miles Davis band, spearheaded the jazz-rock fusion era. DeJohnette replaced Williams in the Davis group, and John Scofield is also a Miles alumnus; Larry Goldings had been approached by Williams ...

$10.15 Donny "D-M.A.U.B." Harper is Dedicated to Making All Underestimaters Believers......it's what his name stands for. Like most thrown onto to the platform of ministering the word of God, this young man has seen his share of trials and tribulations. When his childhood friend, Robert "Lazarus" Smith pulled him aside and introduced him to Christ, Donny took the role full on. Tragically losing his mother in 1997, D-M.A.U.B. finally saw that there was more to life than what he had been doing. He accepted the invitation and started turning a skill he has always possessed to glorify God and spread his awesome testimony of coming through tough struggles. He wants people to know that we can have fun and draw men to Christ through his lyrics and beats. But most of all he desires to draw all to Christ. He's also known as the #1 "YOUNG CUT-T , which stands for Courageously Upholding The Truth. When D-M.A.U.B. talks, people listen, they relate, they think and things change!!D-M.A.UB. has had the pleasure of ministering alongside national recording artists Nicole C.
