Girls on the Run is filled with timeless and lyrically rich pop/rock tunes driven by beautiful and emotionally raw boy/girl harmonies cleverly layered between catchy guitar hooks and thumping rhythms.Knock Knock was formed in 2000 and quickly became a popular local draw in their hometown of Sacramento, California. The band earned opening spots for indie favorites Jackpot and !!! and eventually recorded their debut, Warm Fronts, Cold Shoulders, in 2004. The record gained momentum through college rock radio, where one reviewer from Davis, California's KDVS stated, "Knock Knock may have released the best pop record this year". The band continued to play throughout Northern California and garnered several Sammie Award Nominations for Best Pop Band. In 2008, Knock Knock achieved their breakthrough with the release of their sophomore effort, Girls on the Run. Reviews were generally ecstatic, to the point of well known Sacramento News and Review scribe, Jackson Griffith, using the adjective "godlike" when describing the record. Seriously. The band continues to push Girls on the Run through their (in)famously personal, hilarious, and often moving live show, where (seemingly) drunken stage banter and audience participation rubs elbows with honest-to-god rock n' roll grit and heart-on-the-sleeve slow dancing weepers. Comparisons have been made to the Talking Heads, Yo La Tengo, Roxy Music, Fleetwood Mac and Wilco, if you're into that sort of thing. If not, I can at least say --with absolute certainty-- that Knock Knock sounds nothing like the current line-up of King Crimson. What can be said about Mista Kista a.k.a. Lilsmirk. A quiet loner from Oakland that grew up in the Murder Dubs out of a family of nine. Like his counterpart Sol-Jah, Mista Kista somehow avoided the street life mainly cause of the disciplinary tactics and love of his mother. Although he hasnt broken the law per say, the law was bent a few times in his younger days. Mista Kista always enjoyed music. First having his enjoyment with music when he was around 7 or 8 when he was giving a drum set. Although it was soon taking away because of the noise and racket coming from a little inexperience drum player, it left a permanent impression that stayed with him thru his lifeMaking beats. By his early teens, Mista Kista and his brother Outragus were being influenced by the pioneers of Rap. A film that was always played in the house was Beat Street. For those the know Beat Street in its own right is a hip-hop lovers Classic. First real Hip-Hop/Breaking movie with Afrika Bambaata, Grand Master Flash, Crazy Legs, Kool Moe Dee and other pioneers. Now came the start of a new generation of music which Mista Kista was at the beginning of learning which is evident in his songs The Rhyme Wrecker, Lyrical Beating, Undisputed Champion, With rapping now coming into play, it put Mista back into the realm of music. By mid teens, every so often Mista Kista and fam enjoyed the luxury of cable for short periods of time. What they watch--Videos.
