DIVISION, the follow up to 10 Years' hit debut, THE AUTUMN EFFECT, reflects the turbulence in the band, and its emotional aftereffects, during the period following their breakout success. Songs like the storming opener, "Actions and Motives," and the emo power ballad, "Dying Youth," obliquely address this turmoil, while the first single, "Beautiful," and the unexpected sitar-and-tabla inflected "Alabama" stretch the Tennessee band's reach to include sounds and emotions beyond those heard on the more straightforward THE AUTUMN EFFECT. Division Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Amazing Once you slip these tracks in your MP3 player or CD player, you will be blown away. Not only does Jesse Hassek deliver with his voice and lyrics, but the whole group forms one. This might be just a handful of CD's i can play without skipping tracks. There is no other band like 10 Years, not even close. After sucessful, The Autumn Effect, it would be tough to beat it. Division did that. Buy it. Submitted by dfm (TEXAS) Was This Review Helpful? Amazing This is a great follow up to the Autumn Effect. Their sound is pretty much the same, meaning you'll know it's 10 years, but they have a pretty diverse album here. Goes from some nice melodies to a few songs that rock. I am a very big fan and this album will not disappoint you. This is one album that you can listen to from start to finish and like every song. This CD sould get album of the year, yeah it's really that good. If you like rick, buy this album. Submitted by Bruce (Iowa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
Straight-forward 'Autumn Effect' was an album of proportions of being Tool-sounded a la Alice in Chains which still remains in effect where 'Division' is concerned. You got a band where the lyrical content is deep as it's ever been compared to 'Autumn Effect' which if it's something to strive on the next album as far as a music career goes, it's not too far behind. Once again ...I only liked a few songs like Beautiful and Dying Youth right away, but just like The Autumn Effect, after I listened to it a few times, nearly all the songs I absolutely love. If I hadn't replayed the cd over a few times I probably wouldn't like it, so for people like Michael from Florida I recommend you just sit back and listen to songs like Actions & Motives, Just Can't Win, 11 AM, Dying Youth, Russian Roulette, Picture Perfect, All Your Lies, So Long Good Bye, and Proud of You and truly appreciate them. Awesome Album that's in league with their previous. Submitted by Some stoner (Oconto, WI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Unexpected I got into these guys a little more than a year ago with Autumn Effect, and I was thrilled with the Tool/Alice in Chains vibe they portayed.Division has been (very) long-awaited,however upon release I have to say it's been a letdown;the slick production don't do diddly squat for me. After a few more listens though I'm starting to appreciate it a little. At this juncture, I can say that as a rock album, Division has it's redeeming qualities; as a 10 Years album, it's a disappointment. | | Y & T Mean Streak CD (1983)
Division album
$13.59 Following the unexpected commercial underachiever that was their fourth album, Black Tiger, San Francisco's Y&T were reeling in confusion. All had seemed rosy back in 1981, when their comeback effort, Earthshaker, had been heralded as an instant classic by media and fans alike; but its successor had lacked both substance and energy by comparison, leaving the group uncertain of what to try next. Making sure to rediscover the edgy guitar tones of old for 1983's Mean Streak was a good start, but inconsistent songwriting continued to plague Y&T, who, as usual, fell way short of replicating the power of their live performances in a studio setting. Mean Streak's title track opened the proceedings in promising enough fashion, its raw energy and aggressive riffing making it one of the band's strongest singles yet. But the very next cut, "Straight Through the Heart," quickly ground everything to a halt with its flattened sonics and lurching rhythm; it took two, very tastefully executed power ballads like "Lonely Side of Town," and "Midnight in Tokyo" to salvage Side One. Side Two got under way with the competent, if rather tame "Breaking Away," only to mar a couple of commendable attempts at re-ignition in "Hang 'Em High," and "Sentimental Fool" (see its classy guitar harmonies) with the terrifying cock rock drivel of "Take You to the Limit" and "Down and Dirty." In the end, Mean Streak was another unbalanced outing that left most hard rock fans nonplussed, and serious Y&T supporters, who knew what the band was capable of, sorely disappointed. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
The edgy guitar tones of 1983's Mean Streak may have been a sharp improvement over 1982's dreadfully produced Black Tiger, but increasingly inconsistent songwriting continued to plague Y&T, and none of their efforts seemed capable of translating the power of their live performances ...

While the Moodies were never exactly a rocker's delight, SEVENTH SOJOURN, the seventh recording with the post-Denny Laine lineup, is perhaps their most ballad-heavy album. Ironically, the album's biggest hit, which would become one of the group's signature songs, was the uncharacteristically uptempo "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band." Elsewhere, appearances are equally deceiving; interpersonal tensions had developed in the band to the point where there wouldn't be another Moody Blues album for six years, but the album is full of slow, romantic musings, ...
