Black Path album
$10.49 A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of the Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film--the Beatles' first--introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the band. The film opens with the Fab Four boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in ...
| | King Crimson In The Court Of The Crimson King CD (1969) Bonus Tracks
Black Path CD music
$102.39 Initial pressings featured a limited edition, cardboard-stock gatefold sleeve and unpublished archive photos.
KC's debut album introduced to the world a group that threw various '60s genres into a blender and set the results afire with a blowtorch. One of the pioneers of the progressive rock movement that began in the late '60s and flourished in the early '70s, King Crimson was arguably the most consistently creative band in the genre. On IN THE COURT they blend wispy, Donovan-ish folk-rock with Wagnerian grandeur, mind-bending heavy rock, and even a free- jazz sensibility. Greg Lake's vocals are effectively theatrical but more restrained than in his later ELP work. Robert Fripp was just learning how to make mincemeat of a chord progression, but he's alternately lyrical and frenetic as the moment requires.

| | Daughtry Leave This Town CD (2009)
Black Path album
$15.45 When he was recording his debut album in 2006, Chris Daughtry didn't have the time to assemble the real rock band he so desperately wanted to have, so it appeared under the band name Daughtry without featuring any of the musicians who later became part of the group. That's not the case with LEAVE THIS TOWN, Daughtry's second record: all five members are glowering on the album cover, floating like specters over an abandoned Californian street. The five rockers serve as visual evidence that Daughtry is a band, not a person, and such reminders may be necessary because LEAVE THIS TOWN doesn't differ much in feel or form from DAUGHTRY. Overall, LEAVE THIS TOWN isn't quite as studio slick as DAUGHTRY, which was fueled by Chris Daughtry's desire prove that he belonged in the big leagues; ...
| | Sting If On A Winter's Night... CDs (2009) Digipak
Black Path CD music
$14.19 It's no secret that Sting is a serious man, so it's only logical that his holiday album -- his first new music since the Police reunion, not that it really matters -- is a serious endeavor, thank you. No niceties for him, no comforts of carols; he favors formal over familiar, writing madrigals, not ditties. It is music made by someone who lives in a castle, which ...

| | Two Dark Birds CD (2008)
Black Path songs
$9.59 "It's a record heard best with a beer in hand beneath a star-punched sky. Somewhere, Robbie Robertson must be proud." Nylon". . . one of this year's most subdued and moving releases." Big Takeover"Soulful, smooth and buttery. . . an understated beauty that holds up well to repeated listens." Reveille"Cut by cut, it's mix tape silver and gold, and taken as a whole it's a new friend ready to wrap your ears in good thing." Jambase"Two Dark Birds borrows from the dark side of the Laurel Canyon sound and gets better with each listen. A genuine late night vibe hovers over this album. Lonesome harmonica, watery electric pianos, weeping pedal steel guitar and introspective lyrics set the table." Scene"Subtlety and realism reign supreme in Two Dark Birds’ timeless narratives of real life." ExclaimWhen pushed to define TWO DARK BIRDS, Steve Koester’s latest band, Koester calls it "American" or "Soul." American Soul. With traces of Neil Young’s On the Beach and the Band’s Music from Big Pink, and echoes of Dylan, Bill Withers, and the Meat Puppets, that label certainly seems to fit. TWO DARK BIRDS is firmly rooted in the past, without seeming retro—both timeless and right on time. Koester has been making critically acclaimed indie-rock for years, with the post-punk outfit Punchdrunk, the quieter art-rock of his solo work, his "canyon rock" band Maplewood, and now TWO DARK BIRDS. Throughout Koester’s career, the bittersweet twang and plaintive melodies of American music played a continual, scratchy loop in his ear. There came a time when he asked himself - what kind of music did he REALLY want to make? “I’d already spent over a decade making music pursuing the outer-peripheries of my tastes; why not zero in and buy American?” Koester said. The sound of TWO DARK BIRDS emerged during a late night conversation between Koester and TWO DARK BIRDS drummer Jason Mills. “We just started talking about how groovy country music can be,” said Koester, “and that lead to a discussion of how reggae and country came from the same sources, and how American music is just one big mish-mash, and how we'd like to play a kind of American music that doesn't cut itself off from the other kinds.” Itching to lay down some tracks that tapped into this aesthetic, Koester (vocals, guitars) assembled a group of musicians, including Don Piper (lap steel, backup vocals), Matt Durant (keys), and Jason Mills (drums). The band spent the better part of a sweltering summer in Piper’s Brooklyn studio recording the album with mostly live takes. “We wanted to achieve that organic feel: real people playing real time. No drum machines, no overdubs, live vocals. Totally off the grid. The actual push & pull of five ...

Black Path music CDs
$11.29 Championed by the U.K. press, this debut collection of spirited Manchester guitar rock recalls two generations of Brit-pop. Liam Fray's vocals have much raggedy appeal and the songs are simple, hooky delights that decry the emptiness of clubbing and drugging, while indicating a transcendent existence elsewhere, just beyond the city walls.
The long-awaited debut by neo-Brit-pop quartet the Courteeners fits neatly into the continuum of big brash guitar bands from Manchester, with hints of the Smiths (including a typically fine production job by Stephen Street), the Stone Roses (occasional flirtations both with '60s-style jangle pop and psychedelia), and Oasis (frontman Liam Fray's big mouth and apparent lack of internal censor, both of which have already made him a popular interview subject for the U.K. music press) coloring these 12 songs. Now, Fray is not the equal of those bands ...
