| | Jasmine Nightdreams/Edgar Winter Group CD Edgar Winter Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
2008 digitally remastered two CD set featuring a pair of albums from Edgar and his group. In 1975, the Edgar Winter Group was riding high on success and on a creative roll, issuing the two albums in this package in quick succession in June and October of that year. On these albums, the Group consisted of Edgar himself on keyboards, sax and vocals with help from two stars in their own right: Dan Hartman on bass and vocals, shortly to have a worldwide hit with 'Instant Replay' and axe hero Rick Derringer on guitar and vocals. Both albums feature songs that cover many genres of music from Pop to Soul to Boogie to Rock to Jazz. 24 tracks total. Edsel. $18.79 The sheer toughness -- and overall derivative -- nature of Killing Floor's debut album, issued six months after Led Zeppelin's debut in 1969 on the Spark label, is a wondrous contrast to the overly slick treatment American blues were given by British artists. All of these tunes, with the exception of one, are revamped versions of songs from the blues canon with different words. The lone "cover" in the set was written by Willie Dixon titled "Woman You Need Love," the tune ...
| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Jasmine Nightdreams/Edgar Winter Group album
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would expect, especially since the two guitarists come from two different musical worlds. "Odds and Ends" is more lighthearted, the kind of music Paul McCartney toyed with ...
| | Legend CD (2007) (Import) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak; Germany
Jasmine Nightdreams/Edgar Winter Group CD music
$18.75 In some circles, Mickey Jupp is something of a minor legend, a roots rocker with excellent taste and a cutting wit, best heard on the songs "Switchboard Susan" and "You'll Never Get Me Up in One of Those," both covered by Nick Lowe. Basher's endorsement is a clear indication that Jupp is a pub rocker, a guy who specializes in laid-back good times, so it shouldn't come as a great surprise that his first band, Legend, was proto-pub, an unabashed celebration of old-time rock & roll, filled with three-chord Chuck Berry rockers and doo wop backing vocals. Nevertheless, listening to their 1970 LP is a bit of a shock, as it's completely disassociated with anything that was happening in 1970, even with Tony Visconti enlisted as their producer. Legend's sensibility is ahead ...
| | Only Ones Immortal Story CD (Import) Import; Netherlands
Jasmine Nightdreams/Edgar Winter Group music CDs
$23.65 There are some great what-if stories in the history of rock, but few are as compelling as the sordid tale of the Only Ones. Blessed with a remarkably talented lineup, great songs, and a frontman -- the doom-obsessed Peter Perrett -- who exhaled charisma like so much carbon dioxide, the Only Ones were the proverbial can't-miss proposition. But miss they did. Plagued from the start by clueless marketing, squabbles with their record company, and Perrett's legendarily erratic behavior, the Only Ones managed to hang together for a scant five years (1976-1981), releasing three albums and the transcendent single "Another Girl, Another Planet," before they flamed out and Perrett left music to focus full-time on heroin. The band's memory is kept alive by a dedicated cult, but, for most casual fans, the Only Ones are notable only for "Another Girl, Another Planet." That's a shame because, as ...
