"Whenever Whenever Whenever" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
For a brief moment in the mid-90s, Maxwell was his generation's Marvin Gaye. This live set, probably his finest moment on wax, features the bonus track "'Til The Cops Come Knockin'," as well as "The Lady Suite," "Gotta Get Closer," and five more.
Riding the wave of young turks delving into old-school soul that includes D'Angelo, Eryka Badu and Adriana Evans, Maxwell's URBAN HANG SUITE heralded the arrival of a balladeer who combined Al Green's seductiveness with Prince's sensuality. MTV UNPLUGGED shows off the live side of this young free spirit whose musical roots reach through the Quiet Storm into some pretty unlikely places. Throughout this EP, the arrangements are lush, the horns caress every groove and Maxwell's creamy falsetto ducks and feints through his own "Whenever Wherever Whatever" and "The Lady Suite." He also takes time to give props to Kate Bush with a crystalline reading of "This Woman's Work." Showing off a knack for the unorthodox, Maxwell closes out the festivities with a completely transformed cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" that moves from a jazz/funk workout to a gospel feel.

This pop-rock outing leans surprisingly towards the rock side of things, as evident on the punky opener "Stupid Little Love Song." Other hard-charging tunes includes the slowly building "Bye Bye Boyfriend" and the nu-metal stompers "Unforgiven" and "Give It Away." Instrumental fingerstyle guitar to motivate, sympathise with, and to sooth your lifestyle.I am a guitarist from Michigan with a big dream. I love creating intelligent, emotion driven music. The audiences that take to my music are usually the thinkers, the dreamers, the intellect, etc. I have a great respect for Classical music and always try to include that in my repertoire. Modern fingerstyle guitarists are doing really creative things with the guitar so I also love to play some Leo Kottke, Alex de Grassi, Michael Hedges, Andy McKee, as well as many others in my concerts. I use pieces from other composers to challenge my thinking and force me to try new things so my own original compositions have as much as possible available to them. An example of this is on my piece “Three Years” which was written for my wife around our third anniversary. I had been working on some pieces by Pierre Bensusan who uses a lot of crazy stretches in the left hand. Well I had this music floating around in my head and I got some of it out on the piano but after working with Pierre’s music I tried getting this piece out on the guitar. I never would have succeeded if it weren’t for Pierre. The only way I could get the notes and chords and music out was to include some stretches and odd fingerings that I would never had done before had my mind not been open to them by this master guitarist.
