Fear Of A Black Hat film
$11.49 Prior to his global infamy as organizer of both Band Aid and Live Aid, Bob Geldof enjoyed a successful time with his punk-era band, The Boomtown Rats. This show is culled from a 1978 performance at London's Hammersmith Odeon, with the Rats popularity peeking--both "Rat Trap" and "I Don't Like Mondays were subsequent number 1 singles--and an expectant crowd urging the group to deliver the goods. They do so in style, delivering incendiary interpretations of "Like Clockwork," "Looking After No. 1," "She's So Modern," "Rat Trap," and many others.

Fear Of A Black Hat DVD
$10.19 Director Christoph Green teams up with producer Brendan Canty (of punk rock figureheads Fugazi) for another installment of their fascinating BURN TO SHINE series. The premise for these films finds Green and Canty travelling to a different city, locating houses that are soon to be demolished, then staging a unique last-rites-style ceremony for the buildings by getting local, independently minded musicians to perform in them. This third installment takes place in Portland, Oregon, and includes performances by the Shins, Sleater-Kinney, the Decemberists, Mirah, the Thermals, Quasi, the Gossip, Wet Confetti, Planet The, Lifesavas, the Ready, and Tom Heinl.
This is the third in a film series produced by Fugazi's Brendan Canty and directed by filmmaker Christoph Green. It features live performances by The Shins, Sleater-Kinney, The Decemberists, Mirah, The Thermals, Quasi, The Gossip, Wet Confetti, The Planet The, Lifesavas, The Ready, and Tom Heinl. The crew travels from town to town filming bands performing in houses that're about to be demolished or burned to the ground. In one day they document the house, the bands, and the demolition, then put it together in a 50-minute movie and move on to the next town. Extras include an extended slide show of stills of the day's bands as well as stills of the destruction and film production.
| | Fire Engines Hungry Beat CD (2007)
Fear Of A Black Hat movie DVD
$12.95 Thanks in part to the popularity of Scottish dance-rock act Franz Ferdinand in the early 2000s, the Fire Engines became perhaps the most name-dropped band most people had never actually heard. The band's limited recorded output was released on vinyl seven-inch, LP, and EP in the early '80s; it quickly went out of print, and became nearly impossible to track down. In 2007, Acute Records issued HUNGRY BEAT, a 16-track collection spread across the band's various releases, including its debut 1980 self-released single "Codex Communications." Offering a proto-dance punk sound pulled so tight you can practically bounce a quarter off it, the Fire Engines excelled at blending stutter-funk grooves with pre-C-86 jangle pop. A wonderful service to Britpop and post-punk fans alike, HUNGRY BEAT is absolutely essential.

| | Super Furry Animals Hey Venus! CD (2007) Bonus CD
Fear Of A Black Hat video
$12.55 Released in late 2007 in the U.K. (and early '08 in the U.S.), HEY VENUS! is the Super Furry Animals' first album for the venerable Rough Trade label, marking a return to the Welsh alternative-rock ensemble's indie roots. In contrast to excellent but sometimes overblown earlier outings such as RINGS AROUND THE WORLD and PHANTOM POWER, HEY VENUS! is more concise and focused, showcasing the group's knack for strange pop-tinged gems on breezy and melodic tracks such as the orchestral "Show Your Hand" and "The Gift That Keeps Giving," a sunny ditty that's lifted by frontman Gruff Rhys's multi-tracked vocals. SFA's more rambunctious side breaks through on the glitchy, off-kilter "Neo Consumer" and the gleefully odd and amped-up "Baby Ate My Eightball," happily proving that the band's restlessness and eccentricity haven't diminished over the years.
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
