| Jeff Chandler's Last Role is Memorable Samuel Fuller's Merrill's Marauders is a rugged, uncompromising, and compelling war drama set in Burma (shot in the Philipines). Jeff Chandler (in his last role) plays Gen. Merrill brilliantly capturing all the subtleties of the stress of leadership, jaded widsom, and flawed heroism. Chandler injured his back during the filming and died shortly thereafter in a negligent surgery. What great loss is his death at his prime. He was charismatic, versatile, and a magnetic actor. The cinematography is outstanding, as is the supporting cast made up of then famous TV stars, Ty Hardin, Will Hutchins, Claude Akins, and others. By spartacus9298 (Alhambra, CA, USA) |

| Damn Good War Movie- Director Fuller's retelling of the heroic guerrilla raid of U. S forces behind Japanese lines during WW2. This film accurately depicts the harrowing mission as the men suffer from fatigue and starvation. The acting from Jeff Chandler and the supporting cast (particularly Ty "Bronco' Hardin) is superb. Great battle scenes and an engrossing story make this an outstanding WW2 movie. By Steve (Scotch Plains, NJ) |
